Urology Physician at Veterans Health Administration
The Urology Physician at the VA Northern California Health Care System provides comprehensive urological care to veterans, including outpatient consultations, pre-operative assessments, and invasive procedures. This role involves collaboration with other medical specialists and participation in surgical care at the Stockton VA Outpatient Clinic and Sacramento VA Medical Center. The physician is accountable for patient management, informed consent, and advancing clinical access principles to ensure state-of-the-art urological treatment.
VA Northern California Health Care System is looking for a Staff Urologist to serve Veterans at the Stockton VA Outpatient Clinic. The clinic offers a full range of medical and ancillary services including primary care, audiology, cardiology, chiropractic, compensation & pension exams, dental, gastroenterology, infectious disease, laboratory, mental health, nutrition, occupational therapy, ophthalmology, optical shop, optometry, pharmacy, physical therapy, podiatry, primary care, radiology, social work, urgent care, urology, and women's health. The clinic provides care to veterans in rural areas via a mobile health clinic.
The physician is accountable to the Chief, Urology under the Surgical Services Department and is responsible for managing the effective delivery of state-of-the-art urological care, including urology consult/referral review and triage, coordination of urology clinics using advanced clinical access principles, pre-operative assessment, operative intervention, and post-operative care. He/she participates in all aspects of the general urology program, including the following responsibilities:
- Provide urological outpatient care (invasive and noninvasive) to all scheduled and walk-in patients.
- Inform patients (and guardians, caretakers, and family members when appropriate) about alternative treatment and diagnostic modes and the risks and benefits of each.
- Provide pre-operative evaluation of each patient scheduled for elective or emergency surgery.
- Obtain informed consent from the patient or guardian before conducting invasive procedures.
- Encourage family members or guardians to be involved with the patients' care.
- Perform invasive procedures including cystoscopies, vasectomies, circumcisions, infrared coagulation, excision of genital lesions, urethral meatotomies, and dorsal slits.
- Assume total responsibility for all perioperative care for assigned patients.
Opportunity to work at the Sacramento VA Medical Center 1-2 days per month to maintain surgical skills and apply for Volunteer Clinical Faculty (VCF) appointment to work with residents training at a facility of UC Davis School of Medicine.
Salary Range: $327,000 - $357,000
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm; No evening/weekends, holidays or on-call required.

Candidates must:
- Be a US citizen or PRA (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7407(a)).
- Possess a current, full, unrestricted medical license in any state.
- Be board prepared/certified in Urology.
- Confirm vaccination for seasonal influenza.
Preferred Experience: Surgical Observation Bed, Urology, Amb Surgery OR (O/P), Surgery Admin.
Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases.
Paid Time Off: 26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year, and possible 5-day paid absence for CME.
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA.

Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory.
CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement.

Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restrictions on moonlighting.
