American Policy Ventures (APV) is a fast-growing nonpartisan nonprofit organization focused on de-risking pragmatic governance and cross-partisan collaboration in Congress — with the aim of reducing polarization, helping our nation’s leaders get things done, and unlocking bipartisan action on critical issues.
We collaborate closely with a broad cross-partisan network of Senators, House Members, senior staffers, policy experts, philanthropists, and other leaders to make this work possible. We’re in a growth stage — and we’re excited to find the exceptional talent who will play a pivotal role in taking APV’s impact to the next level. We are open-minded about the experience and seniority level that makes sense for the roles we’re looking to hire for. So, if you are more or less experienced than what the job description describes, do not be daunted! If you are someone with the chops, hustle, and high-EQ/low-ego ethos we’re all about, please reach out.
The VP of Government Affairs will play a leading role in shaping APV’s policy engagement, with a particular focus on House Republicans while working in a bipartisan manner to drive bipartisan policy campaigns. This person will work closely with APV’s Senior Vice President, Executive Director and broader team to craft and execute legislative strategies.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead APV’s engagement with House Republicans, cultivating relationships with key offices, committees, and leadership.
- Drive bipartisan policy work on issues including economic competitiveness, high-skilled talent, permitting reform, scientific innovation, energy, and a range of other issues.
- Develop and execute legislative strategies, including coalition-building, advocacy, and direct engagement with congressional staff and lawmakers.
- Coordinate with external partners, including think tanks, industry leaders, and advocacy groups to build broad-based support for policy initiatives.
- Represent APV in policy discussions, hearings, and public forums, advocating for pragmatic, bipartisan solutions.
- Collaborate closely with APV’s leadership to align legislative work with broader organizational strategy.
What We’re Looking For:
- 5-15 years of experience in policy, government, or political strategy, ideally with experience working on or with Capitol Hill, think tanks, advocacy organizations, or policy-focused nonprofits.
- Strong relationships within House Republican circles, with a deep understanding of legislative dynamics, key committees, and policymaking processes.
- A demonstrated ability to work across the aisle, with experience navigating bipartisan coalition-building.
- An entrepreneurial mindset, with the ability to identify high-leverage policy opportunities and execute strategic campaigns.
- Exceptional communication and advocacy skills, including the ability to engage effectively with members of Congress, staff, media, and external partners.
- Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications.
- Comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision coverage.
- Matching 401(k) contribution
- Generous PTO policy + paid holidays.
- Opportunities for professional development and career growth.
