We are building up our team to support an on-orbit demonstration of our products in Q1 2027. We provide in-space domain awareness and in-space servicing solutions for governments and businesses. iMETALX is looking for an engineer to join the team to work on cross-domain applications focusing on In-Space Servicing, Assembly, and Manufacturing (ISAM). This will span areas around spacecraft autonomy, such as world view, perception, and controls, as well as testing and deploying software and hardware on real systems. Focus on Circuit Board and PCB Design is desired, exposure and work on space systems and Robotics is greatly desired as well. In addition, the expertise around Electrical Engineering will focus on taking embedded systems from concept to deployment. Job Description: We are seeking an experienced PCB Design Engineer with a strong background in spaceflight PCB design and high-speed digital signal design. In this role, you will collaborate closely with mechanical and electrical engineering teams to create robust, high-performance & innovative PCB solutions that meet the stringent requirements of aerospace applications. Your expertise will ensure that our boards not only perform flawlessly but also adhere to the highest standards of manufacturing and operational reliability in challenging environments. Key Responsibilities: Collaborative Engineering:
Work closely with mechanical, software and systems engineers to integrate mechanical, thermal, and system-level design considerations into PCB designs. Design & Development:
Lead the schematic capture, board layout, and design reviews using Altium Designer or equivalent PCB design software. Focus on the design and development of high-speed digital circuits, including interfaces such as PCIe, DDR, and other high-speed interfaces. Prototyping & Testing:
Oversee PCB prototyping, debugging, performance and troubleshooting activities in the laboratory. Utilize oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, signal integrity tools and other lab equipment to diagnose and resolve design issues. Manufacturing & Quality Assurance:
Incorporate design-for-manufacturing and assembly and test (DFMAT) principles throughout the development process. Ensure thorough understanding of PCB manufacturing processes, including rigid-flex and flex design techniques. Address critical considerations such as radiation hardening, thermal/vacuum/vibration requirements, and component reliability. Technical Support & Continuous Improvement:
Participate in component selection and sourcing to optimize design performance and cost. Support power distribution, memory, peripheral, and power distribution circuit designs. Apply basic Python programming and Linux skills to support design automation and testing efforts. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field. Demonstrated experience in spaceflight PCB design and high-speed digital circuit design. Proficiency in designing high-speed digital circuits, particularly with interfaces like PCIe. Solid understanding of schematic capture, board layout, and PCB manufacturing processes. Experience with design considerations including radiation hardening and thermal/vacuum/vibration. Familiarity with component selection, sourcing, and DFMA principles. Hands-on laboratory experience with PCB prototyping, debugging, and troubleshooting using oscilloscopes and other relevant equipment. Basic knowledge of Python programming and Linux environments. Proficiency with Altium Designer or equivalent PCB design and part management software. Experience with rigid-flex or flex design methodologies. Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. Assembly, Integration and Test (AI&T) for Space Hardware End-to-end hardware development experience, from concept to launch and space operations.
