SUMMARY:The City of Fruita, Fruita Community Center is seeking applicants for Youth Sport Officials for the upcoming fall and winter seasons. Applicants must have a thorough knowledge of most aspects and rules of soccer, flag football, and basketball. Applicants will also be responsible for helping to assist in the implementation of various youth camps. These are instructional programs for younger kids just getting started with the sport. Previous experience officiating, coaching, or playing is preferred. Candidates for this position must possess great customer service, teamwork, problem solving skills, and decision making.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following are examples of primary duties assigned to this position. Other related duties may be assigned.

• Calling games with honesty and integrity by maintaining accurate and timely tracking of points, fouls, and the time clock.

• Will have general knowledge of most sports including rules and regulations.

• Ensures sportsmanlike conduct and a safe environment for players, refs, and spectators. This may include diffusing intense situations with coaches, enforcing consequences of technical fouls and/or ejections.

• Always maintains a professional demeanor and makes an effort to establish a positive rapport with participants, spectators, and other fellow staff.

• Works as a team with other referees, Facility Supervisor, and Program Coordinator to carry out program goals.

• Attend required training.

• Provides basic 1st aid (if necessary)

• Communicates with the Facility Supervisors/Program Coordinator if there are any questions, problems, or issues that arise.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be at least 15 years of age.

• Experience playing or basic knowledge of various sports rules, preferred but not required.

• Training will be provided for those without experience.

• Must be able to work mornings, evenings and weekends

Applicants must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background investigation as this position will work with youth and other vulnerable populations.
