As a
Summer Technology Intern , you will work with Dartmouth's IT professionals on a critical network upgrade project. Your primary responsibility will be to assist in replacing and installing new wireless access points across campus, ensuring fast and reliable Wi-Fi for students, faculty, and staff.
You will also: Work hands-on with IT equipment-no prior experience needed. Collaborate with technology professionals and gain insight into IT careers. Position Purpose
The
Network Technician Intern
provides hands-on assistance in supporting Dartmouth's network infrastructure. Reporting to the Network Manager, this role is designed for high school students with an interest in technology, offering valuable experience in a professional IT environment. Interns will assist with the replacement of wireless access points (APs) across campus and engage with IT staff to develop technical and problem-solving skills.
Required Qualifications
Must be at least 16 years old (per state law for full-time work). Ability to commit to the full-time summer schedule (Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM). Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical instructions. Willingness to perform physical tasks, including:
Lifting at least 20 lbs Climbing ladders Using basic household tools (e.g., screwdriver).
No prior technical experience required-just a strong work ethic and willingness to learn. Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with team members and supervisors. Preferred Qualifications
Interest in technology, IT, or engineering as a future career path. Prior experience working in a team-based or customer service setting. Familiarity with wireless networks, routers, or basic IT troubleshooting. FLSA Non-Exempt

NETWORK SUPPORT AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE - 50%
Assists IT technicians with installing, replacing, and troubleshooting wireless access points (APs) across campus. Follows technical procedures and safety protocols while handling network hardware. Conducts basic testing and verification of network equipment to ensure proper functionality. Helps maintain accurate inventory and documentation of completed work. COLLABORATION AND TEAMWORK - 25%
Works alongside IT professionals and other student aides to support project completion. Develops communication skills by collaborating with supervisors, peers, and staff. Engages with different departments and teams to ensure smooth project execution. Adapts to project needs and contributes to problem-solving discussions. LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT - 15%
Gains hands-on experience in network infrastructure and IT operations. Develops an understanding of IT service management in a professional environment. Receives mentorship and training in network technology, project planning, and troubleshooting. Explores potential career pathways in technology and higher education IT services. WORK ETHIC AND RESPONSIBILITY - 10%
