Onondaga Community College, located in Syracuse, NY, is a college of the State University of New York (SUNY) system and one of 30 locally sponsored community colleges throughout New York State. Onondaga County is our sponsor. We offer two-year degree programs that serve as transfer opportunities to baccalaureate degree programs at four-year campuses or for direct entry to the workforce. Job Description: POSITION FUNCTION The Technical Specialist for Student Central is responsible for performing a variety of technical functions in support of student needs and the College's mission. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: Conducts batch processing of student communications using Colleague Communication Management tools to effectively communicate with students as needed. Process immunization records. Responsible for immunization record reporting and follow-up. Understand all functionality and process of the Campus Card office and fill in as needed. Ensures Student Central website information is correct and up to date. Assist in the Financial Aid Service Center (FASC) as determined by Student Central supervisors. Assists students with the financial aid process, from start to finish, aligned with best practices in customer service. Confers with students and others to provide technical advice, problem-solving assistance, answers to questions regarding goals and policy interpretations; refers to appropriate department or person when unable to respond. Performs continued research/training on best practices, related to financial aid, including changes in local, state and federal regulations as well as continual learning in the area. Understands and updates the Raspberry Pi monitor system. Fixes pointer issues in Colleague. Commits indexed OnBase records. Monitors the texting/chat platform, as needed. Determines eligibility for Lazer Card transfers (Financial aid funds). Supports the Call Center and Front Desk as needed. Other duties as assigned within scope of responsibilities. Requirements: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Associate Degree from a regionally accredited college or university or foreign equivalency. At least 3 years of experience working in a high-paced customer service-related environment where multi-tasking is necessary. Advanced degrees can substitute for years of experience at a 2:1 ratio (Ex. A Bachelor's degree and one (1) year of customer service is acceptable). PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Advanced level computer skills, including proficiency with Ellucian's Colleague and MS Word and Excel are preferred. Bilingual in English and Spanish. English and another language will be considered. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to develop positive and effective working relationships within the College's administrative and academic departments. Advanced level computer skills, including proficiency with Ellucian's Colleague and MS Word and Excel are preferred. Ability to learn about and use the tools necessary to support the financial aid needs of students. Requires exceptional human relation skills to relay information, exercise patience when dealing with students and staff, resolve confrontations, and convey a positive image for the Financial Aid Service Center and OCC. Knowledge of conflict resolution techniques and the ability to manage stressful situations. Working knowledge (or willingness to train) of smart classroom and classroom AV and computer equipment. Additional Information: CSEA position grade 7, non-tested civil service position. Anticipated salary is 48,528. Person hired for the position must meet the minimum qualifications listed here as this hire is approved through Onondaga County Civil Service.
