The OpportunityWe are seeking a Dock Lead to support the efficiency, accuracy, and safety of dock operations. In this role, you will take an active part in loading and unloading freight, organizing shipments, and ensuring all procedures are followed correctly. As a key contributor on the dock, you will help maintain workflow, coordinate freight movement, and serve as a go-to resource for team members, ensuring a smooth and effective operation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Freight Handling: Lead by example in safely and efficiently loading, unloading, and staging freight according to company and DOT guidelines.
· Dock Coordination: Assist in organizing and prioritizing freight movement to maintain an efficient workflow and meet delivery schedules.
· Load Verification: Ensure freight is properly secured, pallets are built correctly, and shipments are accurate before trailers depart.
· Equipment Operation: Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment to move freight safely and efficiently.
· Process Adherence: Ensure compliance with loading/unloading procedures, safety protocols, and inventory tracking.
· Inventory Control: Support accurate tracking of inbound and outbound freight, verifying shipments against documentation.
· Trailer Readiness: Assist with inspecting trailers to ensure proper weight distribution, securement, and completion of loads.
· Safety & Compliance: Help maintain a safe working environment by following and reinforcing safety guidelines, reporting hazards, and using proper equipment handling techniques.
· Problem-Solving: Identify and address issues such as freight damage, misloaded shipments, or inefficiencies in dock operations.
Requirements:Minimum Requirements· Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred.
· Experience: Previous forklift experience preferred.
· Certifications: Forklift certification or ability to obtain upon hire.
Work Environment
This is an onsite position, located at the posted Terminal.
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to consistently lift, push, pull, or carry items weighing up to 50 pounds throughout the shift.
· Must be able to stand and walk for the duration of the shift, including frequent movement between loading areas and trailers.
· Requires frequent bending at the waist, stretching, and reaching overhead to load and secure freight.
· Must be able to work in changing weather conditions if the loading/unloading area is exposed to outdoor elements.
· Capability to operate a forklift, pallet jack, and other warehouse equipment as needed.
