The city takes pride in being a small town with big ideas and has committed to investing in public safety, parks and recreation, economic development, road safety improvements, and modernization of water and wastewater systems, alongside sustainable practices to conserve water and energy. The Police Chief is an “at will” employee who serves at the pleasure of the City Manager and is an active participant in the City’s Management Team. The Police Chief oversees the day-to-day operations of the Police Department; upholding the Department’s high ethical standards. The City of Soledad is seeking a forward-thinking, community-oriented, and seasoned candidate to serve as the next Police Chief. The ideal candidate is collaborative and approachable with a proven ability to mentor and lead others. Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in criminal justice, police science, public or business administration, or a related field, and five (5) years municipal supervisory experience in police service equivalent to the level of Lieutenant or above. The annual salary range for the Police Chief is $177,069 - $211,158; placement within this range is dependent upon experience and qualifications. The City also offers a generous benefits package.
