Primary Purpose and GeneralResponsibilities:
This position will work with the Director ofResearch Development and Strategic Projects to facilitate the University-widedevelopment and submission of successful extramural research funding proposals.This position is integral to implementation activities in support of the VCUResearch Strategic Priorities Plan on both the Health Sciences and Monroe Parkcampuses. As a liaison, project manager, and research strategist the ResearchDevelopment Administrator will help facilitate and support collaborations,directly assist with multidisciplinary, large-scale proposals, and oversee theimplementation of targeted activities to increase and maintain research andtraining awards. This position must have relevant, varied experience withproposal development for the National Institutes of Health, the NationalScience Foundation, the Department of Defense, the Department of Energy, andthe Department of Education, among others.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in English, communications, or other relevant writing-focused or scientific field; or the equivalent combination of education and experienceAt least 3 years of experience with grant writing/proposal development/research development in an academic institution or large nonprofit settingExperience with federal, state and nonprofit fundersDemonstrated project management and research development experience for large, multidisciplinary, multi-institutional proposal development under strict timelinesDemonstrated experience with training grant proposal developmentAbility to analyze and summarize complex written materialExcellent written and oral communication skillsThecandidate should have demonstrated experience working in and fostering adiverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as astaff member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's, PhD or other advanced degree in biological, physical, or social sciences, English, or education.4 or more years of experience in grant writing/proposal development/research development in a research-intensive university with a medical college/school.
