Our law firm is seeking a family attorney who can assist our clients in navigating the sensitive legal issues of family law, including child custody, child abuse, and domestic violence. Responsibilities
Develop a strategic approach and provide leadership and direction to paralegals and legal assistants
Manage full case-handling responsibilities from inception through resolution
Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda on issues relating to ongoing or potential cases
Draft and review initial pleadings, motions, briefs, and other pleadings
Appear in Court to represent clients
Prepare clients and cases for trial
Interact with clients and work with experts
Cultivate relationships with the firm's existing and future clients
Collaborate with senior partners and paralegals to effectively move files through the civil litigation process
Attend court proceedings as needed to represent clients
Divide marital assets, including real estate, when necessary during divorce proceedings
Prepare legal documents such as legal pleadings, motions, marital settlement agreements, contracts, judgments, and orders for a high volume of cases
Keep client files properly organized and up to date
Qualifications
Licensed to practice in Maryland and the District of Columbia
Substantial experience at a Law firm working on Family Law (Divorce, Custody, Child Support, Modifications) for at least 10 years (required; this is non-negotiable)
At least 10 years of courtroom litigation experience (non-negotiable)
Excellent writing and oral communication skills
Proficiency in analyzing and summarizing complicated legal documents and suggesting alterations to those documents
Attention to detail and strong analytical skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a TEAM
Extensive experience in courtroom litigation and trial advocacy including trial preparation and readiness
Ability to anticipate and mitigate potential legal problems within the law firm or for a client while developing strategies to avoid costly litigation and reduce potential areas of risk
Experience in mentoring and overseeing junior associates work for needed guidance on issues and ensure work product is up to par
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree with a legal background and J.D. degree are required
Excellent communication and negotiation skills, especially in highly stressful and emotional situations
Compensation
$175,000 - $200,000
