About the Company & Controller Opportunity:
- Our new client is a leader in the construction industry Maryland. Due to a recent acquisition, they are hiring a Controller to join their accounting team on a contract to hire basis.
- The Controller will work with a tight knit accounting team. This company is big on internal development and promoting from within.
- Typical schedule: M-F 8am-5pm, 100% on site in Laurel, MD
- Reports directly to the President
Job Duties of the Controller:
- Manage and support all accounting operations, including billing, AR, AP, GL, POC accounting, inventory accounting and revenue recognition.
- Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances to the VP of Accounting.
- Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements.
- Support month-end and year-end close process and procedures.
- Assist with annual audit.
- Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
- Supervise small accounting team
- Additional controller duties as assigned.
Qualifications of the Controller:
- 5+ years of full cycle accounting experience at a senior level
- Bachelors in Accounting, Finance, Business or related required
- Construction industry experience or project based accounting experience a plus!
- Knowledge of local sales and use tax filing requirements, percentage-of-completion accounting, revenue recognition, and general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
- Supervisory experience and ability to lead a small accounting team
- Experience using Sage 50 and/or Great Plains preferred
