Pay:

Starting at $16.72 to $18.62 an hour, depending on experience

Schedule:

Days are flexible, Monday-Saturday between operational hours of 7am to 5pm

Location:

Sunnyside, Washington

The Lumber Picker is responsible for the accurate and timely pulling of lumber as well as the catching and stacking of parts coming off the saw machine. The Lumber Picker works closely with the Sawyer to ensure all parts coming off the saw are cut to the right length and free of defects.

This position reports to the Sawyer, Lead Sawyer, Ops Lead, Production Manager, Assistant Plant Manager, or Plant Manager. This position supports our mission of Legendary Service Through Teamwork by providing team members with damage free product and ensuring all parts are cut to length to ensure our customers are getting the best product possible.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED equivalent requiredMust be able to accurately read and use a tape measureAbility to speak, write, and read English requiredMust have reliable transportationAbility to follow procedures preciselyAbility to concentrate and attend to detail amidst a busy work environmentAbility to work independently and without supervisionShoes that are puncture resistant, slip resistant, made of leather or composite material, and have ankle support requiredDuties and Responsibilities

Inspects materials for damage prior to use i.e. cracks in the boards, too much wane, mold, sun damage, etc.Ensures all parts are free of defects before being delivered to the Truss Fabricators to allow them to work quickly and efficiently with little to no downtime.Uses a "pull sheet' to go around the yard pulling the appropriate lumber for the forklift driver to load in the appropriate orderUses a tape measurer to ensure all parts are cut to the correct length or are within the stated toleranceLabels parts clearly and legibly for ease of identification while staged in the yardCompletes any required trainingConducts and daily cleaning of the lumber as well as maintaining it throughout the day to minimize tripping hazardsHaving knowledge of and the ability to identify different species and grades of lumberWorks with the Forklift Operator in an efficient mannerRepresents the company in a positive and professional mannerExhibits thoroughness and accuracyReplaces all unreadable labels for easy identification by yard membersFlexibility to work for extended hours as neededRegularly takes the initiative or volunteers to solve issuesPerform other related duties as assignedThe Lumber Picker works mostly outside in all weather conditions. The working days are Monday-Friday with some Saturdays as needed.
