Manager of Legal Personnel

The Talent Department of Arnold & Porter has an opening for a Manager of Legal Personnel in our Washington, DC office. This position is responsible for driving the attorney life cycle policies and procedures at the firm. This role reports to the Director of Legal Personnel and works closely with peer Talent professionals, including Practice Management, Career Counseling, Diversity & Inclusion, Attorney Recruiting, and Professional Development.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Overseeing the onboarding and orientation of attorneys, including the new fall associate classes and lateral attorney arrivals.Managing the administrative function of associate and staff attorney evaluations firmwide, including mid-cycle reviews.Supporting the attorney compensation and bonus processes.Facilitating and tracking attorney status changes including secondments, schedule changes, relocations, remote arrangements, and practice transfers.Managing the attorney departure process.Managing visa and immigration matters with outside counsel.Supporting the Committee of Associates, including participating in their meetings, developing agendas, and running their elections.Managing the foreign attorney program with Attorney Recruiting and the responsible partners.
Qualifications:Four-year college degree.A minimum of five (5) years of prior law firm experience in legal personnel, legal recruiting, professional development or similar function.Prior supervisory experience and effective leadership experience.Proficiency in Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office Suite or related software.Experience working with viDesktop platform and HTML skills a plus.Ability to work well with all levels of firm personnel, establish effective working relationships throughout the firm and react to challenging situations appropriately.Ability to respect, protect, and maintain confidential and sensitive information.Must be creative, flexible, and adaptable to change and results oriented.Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.Excellent organization and communications skills, both oral and written.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while exhibiting solid attention to detail is paramount.Exceptional client service, both internal and external.Ability to be a change agent and drive new firm initiatives.Ability to demonstrate strategic focus.Flexibility to work additional hours, as necessary.
The anticipated base salary for this position is $120,000 to $150,000. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
