The outgoing CFO is retiring after a highly successful and impactful career with the organization. This role would oversee a talented and tenured finance team. Woodfords has remote/hybrid work capabilities, however, much of the leadership team is primarily on-site in the Westbrook based office. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a successful non-profit providing critical support and services to many Mainers and their families.

Summary Description:The CFO is responsible for managing the financial operations of the organization, ensuring the organization’s financial health and sustainability. This role will oversee all financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and compliance requirements. The CFO will work closely with the Executive Director and Board of Trustees to develop and implement financial strategies that support the organization’s mission and goals.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; MBA or CPA preferred

At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in financial management, with at least 5 years in a not for profit setting

Proven track record of successful financial management, including experience developing and implementing financial strategies, managing budgets, and overseeing financial reporting and compliance

Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders

Passion for the mission and work of the organization

Passionate interest in mentoring others and working as a team

Essential Job Functions:Financial Management

Supervise the Director of Finance in their role in meeting the agency’s routine financial services

Develop and implement financial strategies that support the organization’s mission and goals

Oversee cash flow management

Manage and oversee all financial operations, including banking, accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cost reporting, and financial analysis

Ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial records, including the general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and other financial systems

Prepare and present financial reports to the Executive Director and Board of Trustees, providing analysis and recommendations as needed

Manage relationships with external partners, including banks, auditors, regulators, and other financial service providers

Legal Affairs, Grants and Contract Management

Coordinate matters with legal counsel, including contracts, intellectual property, grant agreements, and other matters as appropriate

Create and sustain productive vendor, banking and contractual relationships and serve as primary liaison with related third parties

Evaluate and oversee risk management and commercial insurance policies

Maintain an exceptional knowledge of the MaineCare Reimbursement Manual, especially in areas that Woodfords provides services

Communicate to state agencies and other stakeholders the financial needs of the agency to maintain proper program support. This can be accomplished through legislative testimony, rate setting, grant support and/or fundraising

Create RFPs for the agency’s professional brokerage services such as, external audit, investments, Insurance, and benefits and banking

Budgeting and Forecasting

Develop and oversee the annual budgeting process, working closely with program directors and other stakeholders to develop realistic and achievable budgets

Monitor actual performance against budget and provide regular updates and analysis to the Executive Director and Board of Trustees

Develop and maintain financial forecasting models that support long-term financial planning and decision making

Strategic Planning and Leadership

Work closely with the Executive Director and senior leaders to develop and implement strategic plans and goals that support the organization’s mission and vision

Lead the Board Finance Committee, collaborating with other committee members to provide strategic financial guidance and support to the organization

Provide leadership and mentorship to the finance team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development

Collaborate with other senior leaders to develop and implement strategies that support the organization’s mission and goals

Board Relations and Reporting

Report on the financial performance of the organization to the Board of Trustees, including regular updates on budget performance, forecasts, and financial risks and opportunities

Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board of Trustees to develop and implement financial policies and procedures that align with the organization’s values and strategic goals

Represent the organization at internal and external events and meetings, providing financial guidance and support as needed

Tax Filing and Compliance

Oversee all tax filings and compliance requirements, ensuring that the organization is in compliance with all relevant laws and regulations

Approve all quarterly and annual reports provided to the IRS, DOL, MDOL and DHHS. Examples are 941s, W2s, 1099s, 990s, and MAAP.

Manage relationships with external auditors and other financial service providers to ensure compliance with all reporting and regulatory requirements

Maintain the agencies pension plan, and act as the plan administrator

Maintain the position as the agencies Representative Payee for consumers in need of this service

General Responsibilities

Support the Executive Director in the day to day activities of the agency and serve as a member of the Senior Executive Team

Develop and implement essential fiscal policies that will insure the effective management of agency funds

Participate in statewide organizations such as MACSP and the Alliance

Oversee and comply with all rules and regulations as set forth in the employee handbook and fiscal handbook

Seek professional growth through attendance at workshops, seminars, conferences and/or advanced course work
