Description

Are you interested in joining Team Kentucky by filling an *unclassified (non-merit) attorney position? Applying here allows our team to search applications based on the current recruitment needs of the various cabinets and departments within the Executive Branch. These attorney positions may or may not be advertised.

Candidates should possess:
  • Ability to interpret state and federal laws, rules, and regulations
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively
  • Attention to detail
  • Computer knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Adobe
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Ability to review documentation for accuracy
  • Committed to timely meeting deadlines
  • Ability to adapt to work pressures and changing priorities
  • Experience in information gathering/research
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Providing legal advice
  • Performing extensive research
  • Preparing recommended orders and opinions
  • Reviewing and drafting responses to Open Records Requests, subpoenas, and agency requests
  • Performing other duties as assigned
*These positions are not under the merit system and generally includes the staffs of the governor and lieutenant governor, policy-making managers, and agency leaders. (See KRS 18A.115.) These positions have no formal selection criteria and are not appointed from a register. Employees in these positions may be terminated 'without notice of cause' without recourse. Vacancies may or may not be posted on the careers website.

EDUCATION: Must be admitted to practice law and in good standing in the Commonwealth of Kentucky OR comply with Kentucky Supreme Court Rule (SCR) 2.111 (limited certification of admission to practice), SCR 2.112 (attorney participants in defender or legal services programs), SCR 2.117 (practice pending admission). Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials.
