The Senior Development Associate is a highly organized individual with strong communication, writing, and people skills who is primarily responsible for acquiring, supporting, and engaging major donors, corporations, and foundations, as well as supporting the fundraising activities of the Annual and Capital Campaigns. The successful candidate will be skilled in donor cultivation, growth, and stewardship; and grant research, writing, and management.
Key Responsibilities
Cultivate and steward constituents at a high level
Coordinate and plan targeted cultivation and fundraising interactions
Participate in planning, preparation, and implementation of special events and activities
Identify new donor pipelines to diversify donor base
Perform prospect research and analysis
Identify major donor, recurring donor, Annual Campaign, Capital Campaign, and planned giving prospects
Upgrade donors from their current giving levels
Research, apply for, and manage grants
Maintain productive relationships with foundations
Maintain updated and accurate database (Blackbaud/Raiser’s Edge)
Promote and secure matching gifts
Cultivate corporate relationships
Manage annual sponsorship campaign
Promote SMPA to civic groups, organizations, and associations
Identify and prepare features for publications and social media platforms
Other projects as needed
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience
3 years of experience in a non-profit setting
Proven record of securing grants from varied sources
Comprehensive knowledge of how to conduct research to identify funding opportunities and to research donors
Deep commitment to the professional quality of your work
Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively
Highly organized with strong attention to detail
Strong project management skills
Ability to manage multiple projects and numerous deadlines
Ability to produce quality work within tight time constraints
Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Google Suite)
Ability to work collaboratively with the team, yet able to perform daily work with a high degree of autonomy and minimal supervision
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Exceptional interpersonal skills
Detail-oriented and used to managing and tracking multiple priorities simultaneously
Raiser’s Edge or CRM database skills preferred
About Saint Martin de Porres Academy
Founded in 2005, SMPA is a faith-based, NativityMiguel model 5th-8th grade middle school that provides tuition-free, extended day, extended-year education to underserved girls and boys of all faiths, races and cultures from low-income families in the New Haven area. We are an independent Catholic school committed to a belief in the dignity and worth of every person, SMPA strives to provide every child with a promising start to life and to equip them to fulfill their academic potential while achieving spiritual and social maturity. With a vision to break the cycle of poverty through education and opportunity, SMPA promotes more than academic excellence. The Academy cultivates personal responsibility, social skills and leadership, balanced with a strong spiritual foundation and a recognition of the need to serve others. SMPA makes a 12-year commitment to each of our students to support them academically, socially, emotionally and financially from middle school throughout high school and college. Its proven model has achieved notable success, with 99% of students graduating from high school, and 100% of students accepted to college.
