This role works 7+ hours per day according to the collective bargaining agreement, Monday through Friday. We are targeting filling this role for the start of the 2024-2025 school year in late August 2024.Position: Reading Consultant / Reading Interventionist (1-year employment contract)School: Highcrest Elementary SchoolReports To: Building Principal & Elementary Instructional SupervisorStart Date: ImmediateEnd Date: June 30, 2025Compensation: $54,394 - $61,457 (Step 1 of appropriate salary schedule)This is a 1-year position for the 2024-2025 school year. The chosen candidate will be hired under the teachers’ collective bargaining agreement and will be entitled to all rights and benefits for the one year contract term, including healthcare benefits, paid sick leave, paid personal leave, and contribution to the CT Teachers Retirement System retirement plan.Reading Consultants / Reading Interventionists work extensively with students to help them improve specific reading skills. Our consultants/interventionists provide professional development and coaching on strategies for teaching and supporting students in the literacy skills needed to read, read to learn, and comprehend and communicate understanding in writing.During this assignment, the Reading Consultant / Reading Interventionist will:Plan and conduct lessons aimed at the specific strategies needed for success in the academic setting in the areas of reading and writing.Collaborate with teachers to identify the literacy needs of students, set learning goals and targets and problem solve with teachers to develop best practices for continuous academic growth of students in literacy.Schedule, manage, and supervise all reading tutors.Coach teachers on tier 1 literacy curriculum, instruction and assessments.Assist teachers with the collection of data, analysis of data results, and support the sharing of findings with all staff.Review student achievement and assist with placing students in appropriate reading and writing intervention and support services.Teach targeted literacy intervention to small groups of students daily using research-based strategies and resources.Work with the principal as a member of the weekly instructional leadership team reporting out on reading/coaching services within the building and identifying areas of needed growth.Assist students and teachers using software and materials related to literacy programs (including but not limited to Lexia, Raz-Kids, and STAR Reading).Maintain and submit accurate and up-to-date management records of all students’ progress, tracking and reporting scores of all universal assessment scores with the principal.Work with our K-6 Instructional Supervisor for Curriculum & Instruction and the team of reading consultants across the district.Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor(s).Qualifications:Prefer to hire Reading Consultant who holds Remedial Reading certification (#102) and/or Reading and Language Arts Consultant certification (#097).Will consider hiring Reading Interventionist who must hold CT K-6 elementary teacher certification (#013, #305 or equivalent) and who possesses a strong background in the science of reading and reading intervention.Deep knowledge of best practices supported by the body of research known as the Science of Reading.Experience with Readers/Writers Workshop.Strong technology skills.Strong leadership and collaboration skills.Strong instruction skills inclusive of oral and written communication.Wethersfield Public School System-Nondiscrimination PolicyThe Wethersfield Public Schools is committed to a policy of equal opportunity/affirmative action for all qualified persons.
