The Department of Anesthesiology has a Research Services Intermediate Laboratory Sciences Professional position available to study the role of T-type (low-voltage-activated) calcium channels in analgesic effects of dietary supplement alpha lipoic acid in animals with surgical skin incision. Our research involves assessment of behavioral effects of alpha lipoic acid on spontaneous and evoked pain measures in wild-type rats and mice, as well as mice lacking subtypes of T-type calcium channels. We will also examine effect of alpha lipoic acid on trafficking and expression of T-type calcium channels in nociceptive neurons. The Department of Anesthesiology has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Research Services Intermediate Professional position.Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholders with laboratory and research functions.Utilize a variety of laboratory techniques required for research projects; for example, perform experiments and tabulate, analyze research, pick up, transport, and maintain results, samples, documents, materials, and other items as needed.Support analytical testing process using standard lab support knowledge in the collection and review of conditions, including preserving samples, completing sample preparation, documenting, and communicating results also perform pre-analytical, analytical, and post analytical test process and evaluate results produced.Independently prepare lab for daily operations, including stocking materials, equipment, safety, cleanliness, and related areas as well as disposing of laboratory materials and samples using well established guidelines.Assist in providing animal care related to research studies, as necessary.Independently provide support researching issues and developing recommendations to resolve process, unit, and related issues.Work Location:

Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacology, neuroscience, genetics or related field.One (1) year professional level research experience.A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.Preferred Qualifications:Master's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field.Prior experience or background within an experimental or wet lab.Experience with behavior pain testing in rodents as well as western blot studies and molecular studies using PCR.Experience with mouse handling.Experience in behavioral pain pharmacology.Experience with in vivo pharmacology relevant to pain mechanisms.How to Apply:
