Overview

The Plant Manager is accountable for all aspects of plant performance by effectively planning work, organizing, and leading the plant teams and managing financial metrics while optimizing quality, safety and with respecting surrounding communities and environment. The Plant Manager is also responsible for ensuring strategies to optimize and continuously improve plant performance, production schedules, cost-effectiveness, and building talent succession and people capabilities. This position shall maintain good standing in the community, sustainable operations, and adheres to and upholds all company policies, safety standards and federal / state regulations.

Role & Responsibilities

Safety Leadership:

Be a Safety leader and exemplify a safety-first culture and ensure compliance with all company SOPs, applicable state and federal environmental and safety regulations and labor agreements.

Be committed to the health and safety of all employees, contractors, and visitors by adhering to company policies, governmental regulations, and federal/state laws.

Ensure the plant is maintained to a high housekeeping standard and that all equipment is in good running order.

Operational Management:

Responsible for the day-to-day operational performance of the plant including review and understanding of plant performance metrics. Implement efficient manufacturing processes and strategies to optimize productivity and minimize downtime. Coordinates the activities of all production systems at the plant including mining, raw material handling, kiln, cooler, clinker storage, crushing/screening, aggregate storage, and outbound loading.

Work collaboratively with staff to create and execute action plans to ensure adherence to production schedules, quality standards, cost standards, shipping plans, inventory levels, and capital project management.

In conjunction with the Vice President, ensure the plant’s performance is within the approved operating budget and forecasts while monitoring and developing ways to reduce costs; plan and execute capital projects.

Plan together with staff all equipment corrective, preventive maintenance, and major outages.

Implement and drive the use of various continuous improvement tools such as TPS, Visual Management, Six Sigma and RCA Programs, focusing on operational excellence, waste reduction, and cost optimization.

Develop a long-range operating plan to continually raise the bar in production, maintenance and overall plant reliability and ensure organizational structures and resources are properly aligned to achieve results. Establish plant KPI’s and deliverables that will drive accountability throughout the site.

Partner with cross functional leaders to ensure plant production aligns with sales and supply chain deliverables.

Monitor and optimize continuous improvement activities to ensure cost-effective operations, and improve performance/efficiency.

Team Leadership:

Be a visible and accessible leader who influences, mentors, and fosters a collaborative relationship with all levels of the workforce through coaching, seeking other’s ideas, sharing effective feedback, and proactively discussing issues and challenges. Communicate strategy and company values to employees

Work closely with the Human Resources Department to ensure proper selection and retention of team members, identifying and addressing skill gaps through training and development initiatives. Aligning on corrective behaviors, investigation outcomes and talent changes as needed.

Ensure the fostering of a safe and inclusive work environment that encourages employee engagement and continuous learning by providing regular feedback and promoting a culture of accountability and collaboration.

Participate in and champion company strategies to encourage/build an inclusive and diverse workforce through hiring, talent development programs including succession planning.

Actively promote, support, and encourage community involvement and a positive corporate image.

Provide clear direction, set performance expectations, and hold teams accountable for KPIs.

Budget Management:

Participate in the business planning and budgeting process. Monitor and control the effective plant expenditures on labor, materials, and expenses against approved budgets, ensuring accurate performance and proactively communicating overages.

Identify opportunities for cost reduction without compromising quality or safety.

Ability, Skills & Knowledge:

Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent work experience.

7+ years of plant operations/management experience (preferably in a union, cement/production-orientated environment).

Proven knowledge of business and management principles (budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation and human resources).

Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to hold accountable, motivate and inspire a diverse team.

Transparent leader who shares critical information, speaks with candor, and contributes constructively.

Respectful, receptive, agile, and eager to learn with strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate at all levels within the organization.

Ability to meet responsibilities associated with a 24/7 plant operation.

Problem-solving and analytical skills to address root cause and troubleshooting of operational issues.

Proficiency in using Microsoft Office suites and other defined software to analyze and interpret data to continually improve plant operations.

Ability to pass pre-employment screenings to include physical, background check, and drug screen.

Must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the plant.
