The Lead position requires the skill and knowledge to take on multiple and/or non-routine tasks demanding highly developed procedures and responsible judgment. The Lead manages and organizes area activities in the absence of assigned Operations Supervisors and assists in supervising area personnel on a daily basis. The decision-making capability and reliable performance of the Lead has a direct impact on internal and external customer satisfaction and perceptions of the Laboratory. Lead activities and tasks are loosely structured. The Lead must routinely problem solve by carefully assessing each situation then choosing from established alternatives or developing new solutions to resolve issues. Leading and directing involves assigning, monitoring, and reviewing progress and accuracy of work, directing efforts, providing training, and providing guidance to trainees, technicians, and technologists. In smaller work groups the incumbent may be responsible for one or more areas of responsibility as outlined below.Key ResponsibilitiesMaterials Planner Lead

- Maintain adequate stock of inventory items by applying fundamental inventory techniques, monitoring, and analyzing usage trends and requisitioning with purchasing to carry sufficient inventory. The planner will also work closely with production to understand material trends and needs. Work closely with financial analyst to provide current pricing and maintain cycle and physical counts. The planner will work directly with suppliers for availability of material, lead time, cost containment and on time deliveries.Materials Processing Lead (Pre-Sterile Area, Wash Area)

– Operates water treatment room and performs pH testing of mouse drinking water. Operates monochloramine filter rack and perform monochloramine water testing. May be responsible for the training of assigned staff. Performs duties of Supervisor in absence of Supervisor. Provides input in annual performance reviews and other personnel actions.Materials Processing Lead (Clean Area)

– Performs order retrieval and release functions in the order management system. Ensures animal room orders are accurately filled and meet quality standards. May be responsible for the training of assigned staff. Conducts periodic and annual inventory of supplies. Performs duties of Supervisor in absence of Supervisor. Provides input in annual performance reviews and other personnel actions.Sterile Supply Area Lead

– Performs order retrieval, ship, and release functions in the order management system. Ensures animal room orders are accurately filled and meet quality standards. Performs quality control checks of incoming processed supplies and wrap for delivery to animal care rooms either by clean corridor or outside airlock. Conducts periodic and annual inventory of supplies. Performs duties of Supervisor in absence of Supervisor. Provides input in annual performance reviews and other personnel actions.Forklift/Float/Sterilizer Lead

– Performs all duties associated with shipping, float duties, forklift operation and all autoclave operations. Operates transport vehicles, assists in the loading of shipping vehicles, transporting materials from main lab receiving dock and warehouse. Provides training for all forklift personnel as well as training on operation of all sterilizers. Ensures that trainees and personnel follow all policies and procedures. Performs duties of Supervisor in absence of Supervisor. Provides input in annual performance reviews and other personnel actions.Shipping Lead

– Delegates work assignments for shipping staff. Assists in day-to-day decision making, participates in supervisory and departmental meetings in absence of supervisor. Maintains data logs for shipping trucks, transport climate-controlled vans, van cleaning and swabbing. Programs data loggers and places in appropriate trucks. Logs all swab and climate data from transport vehicles in to the PQC shared file. Responsible for routing and dispatching transport vans as needed. Assist warehouse staff in moving soiled materials as needed.Central Warehouse Lead

- Oversees the flow of fixed asset and consumable material at the offsite warehouse. Schedules incoming deliveries and outgoing shipments to the main campus. Operates the 24’ straight truck to make delivery of material to the main campus. Works closely with the materials planner to monitor and maintain adequate inventories of consumable material. Coordinates material storage with Engineering, Maintenance, RAF and JMCRS Operations as well as Facilities.All Areas – Safety

- Complies with all safety procedures and policies; attends all safety related training.All Areas – Sanitation

- Sanitizes all processing equipment & machinery, floors, airlocks, locker rooms.All Areas – Quality

- Quality control all materials processing equipment, sterilizing equipment, sterile supply equipment and all associated processes to ensure optimal standards.Other duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesPrevious supervisory or training experience preferred.Must possess and maintain a valid Maine driver’s license and an ongoing clean driving record.Knowledge of proper maintenance of assigned mechanical equipment.Solid, demonstrated computer knowledge of operating systems and MS Office.Ability to safely operate all models of fork trucks.Ability to efficiently, effectively and safely operate all types of sterilizers across the operation.The ability to perform physical tasks on a regular basis, including manipulating heavy objects, climbing step ladders, pushing, pulling, and regularly lifting of up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifting 100 pounds.The ability to maintain accurate records.The ability to learn sanitation methods to meet the criteria needed to maintain the health status and ensure the well-being of mice.Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.Demonstrated ability to positively influence the behavior of subordinates and teammates.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining positive, team player behavior.Education Required:
