The Jackson Laboratory (JAX) is a world leader in mammalian genetics, and has a mission we are passionate about: to discover precise genomic solutions for disease and empower the global biomedical community in the shared quest to improve human health.Our Knockout Mouse Phenotyping Program (KOMP2) is generating hundreds of knockout mouse strains every year and characterizing them through a broad primary phenotyping screen. The mutant mice and the phenotyping data we produce are openly available to the scientific community (www.mousephenotype.org). Data Scientist

to join the JAX KOMP2 team to help with data curation, migration, auditing and reporting. They will be expected to participate in the international effort to disseminate the data, in collaboration with other data scientists in the International Mouse Phenotyping Consortium (IMPC).The successful candidate must thrive in a fast paced, team-oriented environment while maintaining a high level of professionalism and engagement. The position requires broad knowledge and extensive experience with relational databases, including conducting SQL queries, implementation of Application Program Interfaces (API) and quality control strategies.We are open to the possibility of hybrid working for our Data Scientist.Salary range:

$68,344 - $99,099. Salary will be determined based on qualifications and experience.Key Responsibilities

Enable bulk data exports and follow through to ensure high fidelity presentation of our data on the International Mouse Phenotyping Consortium’s website.Design and implement quality control and quality assurance procedures to confirm the accuracy, fidelity and completeness of data and to implement bulk data corrections as needed.Troubleshoot uploading and downloading of data.Query databases, generate reports and assist with visualization and statistical analysis of data.Initiate, maintain and develop relationships with key stakeholder groups, such as software developers, biostatisticians and informaticians, within JAX and IMPC.Requirements

B.S. in computer science or computational science-related field (e.g. bioinformatics, physics or mathematics) and at least six years of appropriate experience relative to this position.Experience using SQL for programming of relational databases and knowledge of the following areas: data management, curation, migration and maintenance.Experience using a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).Programming proficiency and experience with relevant software tools such as:Python for implementation of RESTful APIs.Data visualization and reporting tools that can be used for quality control and project monitoring activities (e.g. Power BI or R/ggplot2).Willingness to learn how to apply other software tools for data management.Proven ability to analyze and synthesize information, and demonstrated resourcefulness in finding appropriate solutions to problems and initiative in presenting alternatives and implementing solutions to ensure effective change and/or eliminate or mitigate potential negative effects.Exceptional organizational and project management skills, including the ability to plan, schedule, track and successfully carry out multiple projects at the same time to successful conclusion with minimal supervision.Demonstrated positive attitude and professional manner in all interactions; demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional development.Quality orientated including delivering accuracy and attention to detail.Ability to work under pressure.Ability to work in a team and lead technical aspects of a team.Additional Desired Skills And Qualifications

Knowledge and ability to program in conventional languages.Experience with web development and web interfacing.Familiarity with the ARRIVE guidelines (Kilkenny et al.) and the 3Rs philosophy governing the use of animals in biological experimentation.About JAX
