Experience with Harvard University systems a plus.Superior interpersonal abilities, experience with HR laws and processes, and a track record of successful interaction and collaboration with diverse groups in a professional environment.Excellent written and oral communication skills, coupled with strong team-building abilities.Proven ability to cultivate relationships and work effectively with staff at all levels.A strong service orientation and a record of outstanding service delivery.Experience and skill in initiating, collaborating on, implementing, monitoring, evaluating, and advancing strategic plans aligned with team goals and objectives.Successful candidates will have significant supervisory experience including managing teams through change.Position Description:The Deputy Director for Administration at the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology plays a pivotal role on the senior leadership team, reporting to the Director of the Museum. This position is responsible for the overall strategic management of the administrative, financial, facilities and staff operations in a large museum. Works with the Director and staff to create a healthy inclusive and positive work environment for all members of the community.Leadership, Human Resources, and Team Management:In consultation with FAS HR, manages human resources administration for all staff in a unionized environment, including recruiting, performance management, compensation, staff relations, implementing FAS HR initiatives, and training.Directly supervises departmental staff responsible for finance, administrative IT support, and the Anthropological Literature database (5 FTE).Provides supportive leadership to more than 60 FTE museum staff members.Oversees the recruitment, hiring, compensation and performance management of employees, temporary staff, and interns.Oversees all financial activities for 65+ endowment funds including monitoring spending, providing financial analysis and forecasting, managing payroll and ensuring compliance with Harvard policies.Develops, prepares and manages an annual budget exceeding $10 million, partnering with FAS Finance Office.Ensures prudent management of spending, adherence to policies, and necessary approvals to guarantee the Museum’s financial sustainability.Supports the Museum’s operational goals and long-term financial health.Administrative Operations:Works with the Building Facilities team on building-related issues, including space assignments, repairs, maintenance, and refurbishing as needed.In collaboration with the Director, sets strategic objectives and allocates resources to support these objectives.In collaboration with Collections Division leadership, ensures that facilities-related activities around Museum collections adhere to the highest professional standards and best practices for stewardship of museum collections.Oversees Museum security to ensure the safety of staff, visitors, and valuable collections, working closely with Collections Division leadership and the Harvard Museums of Science and Culture and coordinating with the Museum’s security services vendor.Serves as contributing member to Museum committees and external committees within FAS.Coordinates and manages additional special projects and duties as required to support the Museum’s mission and goals.Commitment to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging:
