Data management and integration enables PFG information consumers to utilize the data assets of the organization and the analytic/reporting infrastructure to effectively manage the internal workings of the business and make informed decisions about business performance. The Sr Data Analyst position conducts analysis of business and user needs and then documents requirements with diverse levels of complexity. Working with business process teams and application system personnel, the Sr Data Analyst identifies data sources, confirms conversion requirements, and resolves data mapping and data integrity issues.Position Responsibilities:

The Sr Data Analyst supports the data delivery needs of a wide set of initiatives:Data Warehousing / Business Intelligence (DW/BI) projects

These efforts involve gathering data from disparate systems for the purpose of reporting and analysis. Ensure project/solution success by:Identifying data quality issues that must be corrected in the source systemIdentifying issues that can be corrected in ETL processingDiscovering unanticipated business rulesData conversion/migration for application modernization

These efforts involve moving data from a legacy system to a new system. Reduce project risk by:Identifying data quality issues that must be handled in the code that moves data from the legacy system to the new systemIdentifying data issues that may require a change to the target (new) systemSource system data quality & data consistency between applications

These efforts assess and improve the data quality of a given source system, seeking to fix existing issues as well as avoid those issues in the future. Maximize project ROI by:Highlighting the areas within the system suffering from the most serious and/or numerous data quality issuesIdentifying issues that may be the result of bad user input or errant system interfacesAnalytical Data Evaluation & Quality Management

Demonstrates process and technology fluency with analytic applicationsDemonstrates ability to collect knowledge about information assets: where they are, what format they are in, what level of quality they represent, and their value to the enterprise through search & discovery, data modeling, and advanced data profiling.Conduct data verifications during builds and data validations as required by the businessMonitors and shares data quality metrics with scorecards and reports to track data qualityBusiness Engagement

Business Requirements Gathering: Demonstrates ability to engage within a collaborative process, bringing stakeholders together to establish which business outcomes are desired.Demonstrates skills to train users to use information correctly; oversees training activities for business resources new to analysis toolsSupports end-user ‘self-service’ strategy and the development of business super user teamsDemonstrates a high proficiency in business facing technology tools as required: Informatica MDM, IBM Netezza, Snowflake, IBM Cognos, Microsoft SSRS, Microsoft Power BIEnables stakeholders to collaborate, build, and manage a common business vocabulary across the organizationCollaborates with data stewards and developers during initial data profiling activities and for resolution of data quality problemsFunctional Specification development (source to target mapping) for technical design and delivery

Documents source to target system conversion requirementsDevelops test scenarios and verification procedures for transformation rule quality assessmentAssesses whether data is fit for use by performing initial validation of data deliveredLiaison role between business and development teams for coordination of activities to approve final conversion resultsActs as a champion-challenger when testing proposed transformation rules or mappings from other Information/Systems AnalystsCommunication Skills

Shows executives how business intelligence (processes, practices, and technologies) plays a critical role in improving business management, optimization, and competitivenessEncourages collaboration between IT and business information consumers/analystsCommunicates across lines of business (LOBs) to ensure that new applications integrate and comply with business intelligence governance and architecture.Ensures that business users support the IT department's mission of providing platforms that can handle changing business requirements.Fosters user interest and adoptionIdentifies opportunities that drive business value and follow-through to executionInfluences coordination of resolution of design issuesDocuments and communicates business impact and business value related to data issuesLeadership

Serve as mentor to new data analysts and take responsibility for their onboardingTrain other system analysts on the data environment, data mapping techniques and best practicesShare expertise and provide guidance to all team members on data related issues and concernsPerforms other related duties as assigned.Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in IT, Computer Science or related field, 5 – 7 Years:Extensive knowledge of data management, data analysis, and business intelligence content development.Expert-level knowledge in developing interactive dashboards, paginated reports, and reusable datasets using the Power BI stack, including Power BI services, Power BI Desktop, and Power BI Report Builder.Expert-level knowledge in designing and developing paginated reports and a business semantic layer using the Cognos stack, including Cognos Portal, Cognos data modeling, and TM1 integration.Proficiency in Power BI administration and Cognos administration.Knowledge of the foodservice distribution industry and related business processes.5+ years of experience in data related disciplinesExperience with a broad range of database and business intelligence environments including: IBM Cognos, Power BI, Snowflake, Netezza, Oracle and SQL ServerExperience with manual querying of data sources using Structured Query Language (SQL)Strong technical skills with data warehousing technologiesExperience with data profiling softwareAble to interact with data architects and ETL resources, understand and extract data from any type of data source such as star, normalized, transactional databases, etc.Strong collaboration, listening, communication, and presentation skills
