This position for the TRIO Teacher Preparation Student Support Services Program (TRIO TPSSS), a federally funded TRIO Program, is responsible for supporting all aspects of the program to ensure the successful completion of activities of the program in accordance with federal regulations and grant objectives to retain and graduate enrolled low-income, first-generation college students, and students with disabilities. This is a grant funded position.

Primary Duties:

Collaborate with leadership on executing student success initiatives and strategic planning for the program and assist with supervision and mentorship of staff, students, and volunteers.

Assist with the identification, outreach, and recruitment of eligible program participants.

Monitor student academic progress and develop individualized strategies for students’ success.

Maintain regular communication (i.e., semester/annual reports, newsletters, etc.) with participants and key stakeholders; review and update participants’ records and maintain various forms of data.

Serve as primary manager of student database, perform midterm and final transcript reviews, and graduation audits.

Serve as a supplemental academic advisor, role-model, mentor, and university liaison for TRIO programs.

Propose, design, and lead workshops, seminars, and new participant orientation.

Oversee the day-to-day coordination and operations of the program related to improving the graduation and retention rates of program participants.

Maintain program related manuals (i.e., Operations Manual, Employee Handbooks, etc.) and update of all forms used for recordkeeping and program operations and services.

Develop and curate content for the program’s website and various social media platforms.

Partner with leadership on the preparation of the Annual Performance Report (APR) required by the U.S. Department of Education and serve a primary data recorder.

Review and maintain student files and other documentation to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and federal guidelines.

Assist with budget management and the completion of monthly financial reports and in audit preparation.

Attend training and professional development sessions to stay current on Department of Education and TRIO grant policies and procedures.

Build and maintain working relationships and collaborations with target schools, community partners, and GVSU campus partners; serve on committees as needed.

Serve as a liaison for TRIO through participation at community events and spread awareness of TRIO programs through local and statewide outreach.

Perform other duties as required/assigned by leadership.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Master’s degree in education/education leadership, counseling, student affairs, or related field.

Minimum of five (5) years of experience in higher education, advising, career programing, or related field.

Experience managing and supervising teams.

Experience planning and executing programming and events.

Experience using various social media platforms and creating outreach materials (flyers, brochures, etc.).

Experience working with programs for income dependent and/or first-generation students and ability to effectively advise and advocate for those students from the target population.

Experience in grant writing, administration, and/or grant management.

Experience in budgeting, planning and management.

Ability to navigate computer software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Adobe Suite, and other products.

Strong cross-cultural, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills.

Strong presentation, organizational, and customer service skills.

Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to travel to participating schools or organizations; some nights and weekends may be required.

Preference will be given to applicants who have succeeded in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the project's target population.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Higher education experience.

Understanding of the financial aid and college admission process.

Experience planning and executing large-scale programing and events.

Knowledge of TRIO or other higher education academic programs and support services and effective practices supporting student recruitment, retention, and development.

Experience using design software (such as Canva or Photoshop) to create outreach materials.

Minimum Starting Salary:
