The Kentucky Department of Education is a premier service agency of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The department provides resources and guidance to Kentucky's public schools and districts as they implement the state's K-12 education requirements. The department also serves as the state liaison for federal education requirements and funding opportunities.The department seeks to hire a smart, experienced, hardworking and dependable Assistant Director II to join our dedicated team. This role represents a great opportunity to work in a dynamic, challenging and professional environment.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Oversees all programmatic functions within the Division of Communications, including management and direct supervision of staff.Conduct market research and analyze consumer data to identify trends and opportunities. Utilize online marketing platform to manage outreach to various audiences. Develop and implement marketing strategies to achieve business objectives.Build media relationships by interacting with state and national media via phone, e-mail and in person to provide accurate information, communicate department positions, provide interviews and arrange media interviews with staff on department initiatives and policies.Conduct internet research and talk with department staff to ensure background and current knowledge of department initiatives and operations. Assist Director with media relations activities, contacting media reps and collecting information requests.Write media releases; construct quotes, write editorials and occasional columns or talking points for the commissioner, his designee or state board members. Perform journalistic research, editing and revising materials for publications.Supervise select division staff and provide advice and assistance on communication issues and strategies such as writing speeches, talking points, and other internal matters of the division staff and others within the Kentucky Department of Education.Attend meetings and perform the duties of the director in her absence on a state and national basis.Perform other duties as assigned.Skills and Expectations include, but are not limited to:Communication and marketing background.Strong interpersonal skills, good judgment, and an ability to work both independently and in a highly collaborative environment.Good problem solving, technical and analytical abilities.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; A high level of integrity and professional accountability.Alignment with the mission of the Kentucky Department of Education.Minimum Requirements:EDUCATION:

Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:

Five years of administrative or management experience, two of which must include direct supervision of personnel.Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:

A master's degree will substitute for one year of the required experience.Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:

Additional administrative, management, or research experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Incumbents working in this job title primarily perform duties in an office setting. Minimal travel may be required.Probationary Period:
