GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

This position provides the frontline presence of state mining regulation with the regulated mining community of SE Wyoming. The position is a lead worker subordinate to the Land Quality Division, District 1 Supervisor. This position will coordinate and conduct the mining regulatory activities associated with Wyoming mining laws.Human Resource Contact:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.Inspect, report, and review notifications, permits, and licenses related to mining operations regulated by the Land Quality Division to ensure compliance with the Wyoming Environmental Quality Act and Wyoming mining rules & regulations for coal and non-coal mines.Conduct permit reviews and analyze technical information for mine notifications, licenses, and permit applications.

PREFERENCES:Preference will be given to a candidate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biological or Physical Science. Additional preference will be given to the candidate with direct experience in exploration through drilling all types of minerals, emphasizing non-coal minerals such as uranium, lithium, trona, and gold.

KNOWLEDGE:Basic knowledge of mineral exploration and surface mining projects.Basic knowledge of natural resources sciences to analyze exploration and surface mining projects. This includes the application of solid and planar geometry, the application of trigonometry, practical knowledge of basic word processing, GIS/GPS programs, and the use of field-capable tablets.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education:Bachelor's Degree (typically in The Sciences)

Experience:1-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in The Sciences) with acquired knowledge at the level of a(n) Natural Resources Analyst

OR

Education & Experience Substitution:4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in The Sciences) with acquired knowledge at the level of a(n) Natural Resources Analyst

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:NonePHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:Inspection of mineral exploration sites and surface mining sites involves on the road travel and requires the ability to drive a motor vehicle over paved highways and improved gravel roads. Also, the ability to negotiate uneven terrain on foot in order to traverse mine and exploration sites safely is essential.Most inspections are conducted during the growing season (April through July) however, some may need to be conducted during colder seasons when inclement conditions may be encountered.
