The City of Grand Rapids, Michigan, with a population of 198,893 is seeking a collaborative and innovative individual highly knowledgeable regarding sustainability, climate change and environmental justice programs. The City is known as a great place for jobs, education, diversity, safety, a wide variety of entertainment options, and easy access to the outdoors.

The Chief Sustainability Officer will plan, guide, and direct the City’s sustainability, climate resilience, greenhouse gas reduction, and environment justice initiatives. The Office is supported by several full-time and grant funded positions focused on both internal sustainability initiatives and providing leadership on community-wide sustainability goals.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in public administration, business administration, organizational development, environmental services, urban planning, or a related field is highly desired.At least six years of experience developing and managing functions related to sustainability and/or performance management is desired, or a combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
