Under the general direction of the Staff Services Manager II, the Staff Services Manager (SSM) I serves as the recruitment and employee retention manager for the Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) Enforcement Branch. The incumbent oversees and supervises the Enforcement Branch Hiring, Recruitment, and Retention Unit and is responsible for developing and administering the Enforcement Branch's recruitment, workforce, succession, and retention plans. The incumbent leads in developing innovative recruitment strategies to attract applicants to DOSH Enforcement; identifying partners, including colleges, associations, and non-profits to attract candidates; representing Cal/OSHA at outreach forums and events; and consulting with branch managers regarding recruitment needs and strategies.

The incumbent works in an air-conditioned office building with natural and artificial lighting and temperature control. Traveling via private, State vehicle, or public transportation (i.e., automobile, airplane, etc.), including overnight travel, is required.
