The Mission of the Counseling and Wellness Center is to facilitate student success and psychological well-being through culturally sensitive clinical services, outreach, and consultation.

About the PositionOversees provision of direct clinical services to students and serves as a member of the management team of the Counseling & Wellness Center with the Director and other Assistant Directors. Provides psychological counseling services to students and consultation to students, staff and families regarding mental health or counseling issues.

In the absence of the Director, the Assistant Director of Clinical Operations may serve as Acting Director of the Counseling Center.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

40%: Provide direct clinical service, outreach, and supervision

Provide culturally informed, time-limited clinical services to university students in the form of individual, group, and couples counseling.

Provide triage to students.

Apply skills and techniques of evaluation, assessment of risk of harm to self or others, psychometry, and psychotherapy.

Diagnose according to the current DSM.

Intervene in student mental health crises.

Facilitate therapy groups in response to student needs.

Perform mandated assessments as assigned by Director or designee.

27.5%: Oversee administration of clinical services

Determine status of clinical openings versus demand, service needs, staffing, and ensure that schedules are providing adequate clinical coverage.

Ensure that group and workshops offered are consistent with needs of the CWC and WWU students.

Communicate with staff regarding service needs, report on clinical services in weekly staff meetings.

Review all client-related forms and, in consultation with the Admin Team, update as needed.

Review CWC brochures and website information for appropriate and accurate content.

Facilitate medical consultation meeting with CWC staff and Student Health Center behavioral health providers.

Train and consult with professional staff and interns on current best practices for suicide assessment and intervention.

Ensure clinical services program operates in manner consistent with standards of our accreditation agencies.

Keep informed of national trends in therapy services delivery.

Oversee coordination of after-hours crisis response.

Serve on CWC's crisis response team on a rotating basis.

Serve as systems administrator for Titanium.

Maintain current knowledge of the research initiatives of the CCMH.

10%: Participate in office administrative activities

Participate in CWC administration activities including staff meetings.

Other duties (less than 5%)

Provide professional consultation and outreach to facilitate student development.

In the absence of the Director, represent the CWC at TAT meetings.

Participate in continuing education activities as required for licensure.

Provide consultation and training to staff and pre-professional trainees.

Assist CC director in identifying staffing needs.

Assist director in reviewing and updating Policies and Procedural manual.

12.5%: Complete required support activities

Maintain accurate and timely case documentation.

Provide case management as needed for clients.

Network with community professionals and relay current information to CWC staff.

10%: Participate in other consultation, support, and training activities

Consult with other staff and trainees about student mental health issues as needed.

Keep the CWC Director apprised of latest research and treatment modalities.

Required Qualifications

Graduate degree in a mental health field

Fully licensed as a mental health professional in Washington State or eligible for licensure in Washington State

Minimum of five years of post-graduate experience as a clinician

Minimum of two years of experience involving supervision of staff

Demonstrated strong leadership skills

Ability to provide brief and focused therapy

Demonstrated competency working with multicultural and other diverse populations

Experience providing risk assessment and crisis response

Experience facilitating therapy groups

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in a college or university counseling center

Eligible to be an Approved Supervisor in Washington State

Ability to provide therapy in a language in addition to English

Experience providing gender-affirming care

SalaryHiring range is $110,738 - $127,349/year. Through longevity position tops out at $143,960/year.
