Position OverviewThe Plant Manager will oversee and coordinate all needs of the National City, IL facility while ensuring that customer expectations regarding fulfillment, quality, and food safety are met. Reporting to the Vice President of Manufacturing, responsibilities include tracking order fulfillment, managing the production schedule, and monitoring production output to ensure it aligns with customer purchase orders. The Plant Manager produces all necessary quality and regulatory documentation to ensure on-time shipping, works with scheduling to adjust quantities of work orders when necessary, and publishes reports to share with management regarding the status of efficiency, staffing, safety, quality, and training.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Management:

Provide direction and leadership to plant staff, including production, maintenance, quality, and logistics teams.

Be a champion of developing and maintaining a Quality culture.

Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.

Develop and implement strategies to achieve operational goals and continuous improvement.

Operational Efficiency:

Oversee daily plant operations to ensure production targets are met.

Monitor and optimize production processes to maximize efficiency and reduce waste.

Implement and maintain lean manufacturing principles and practices.

Quality Assurance:

Ensure all products meet quality standards and regulatory requirements.

Work closely with the Quality Assurance team to address any quality issues promptly.

Conduct regular audits and inspections to maintain high standards of food safety and hygiene.

Safety and Compliance:

Promote and enforce a culture of safety in the workplace.

Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.

Conduct regular safety training and drills for all plant employees.

Budget and Cost Control:

Manage the plant budget and control costs effectively.

Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.

Prepare regular financial and operational reports for senior management.

Team Development:

Recruit, train, and develop plant staff.

Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.

Implement staff development programs to enhance skills and performance.

Additional Job Duties:

Conduct equipment reviews for functionality.

Ensure sanitary operations and employee GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) performance are maintained.

Perform supervisor mentoring.

Audit various production functions.

Perform basic sensory evaluation of products.

Ensure customer specifications are met.

Enter key performance data into spreadsheets.

Act as a HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) / Food Safety Plan team member.

Assist with budget planning.

Evaluate staffing needs.

Train and facilitate the training of staff.

Qualifications

5+ years of experience in a food production environment.

3+ years of plant management experience in a food production environment.

Ideal candidate will have successful track record of progressing into more challenging roles.

Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required.

HACCP experience required.

Strong familiarity with and use of the Microsoft Office Suite.

Prior experience with environmental monitoring preferred but not required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to read, write, and understand procedures and policies with a strong ability to comprehend and translate to their team.

Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Detail-oriented.

Ability to multitask.

Ability to take on special projects as assigned by senior management.

Ability to work with little supervision when required.

Bilingual is preferred but not required.
