Position Focus:The YASSP Research Project Manager will be responsible for curating the YASSP research portfolio and managing multiple research projects. We seek a dynamic and excited candidate to support the growth of YASSP and build our capacity in ecosystem management research. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in scientific research, applied science and conservation, and project management. This role requires a balance of administrative tasks, project oversight, and content expertise in the areas of applied science and ecosystem management. We anticipate hiring two Project Managers, one with expertise in forested ecosystems and the other with expertise in soil ecology or science, in particular in agricultural ecosystems.

Responsibilities:

Oversee multiple research projects, including coordinating fieldwork activities, organizing data collection efforts, analyzing data, and communicating with project partners and stakeholders.

Provide subject matter expertise in ecosystem management, conservation and restoration, and/or applied science.

Mentor student researchers or postgraduate fellows pursuing research projects closely aligned with YASSP research priorities.

Communicate research findings to diverse audiences through presentations, publications, and outreach activities.

Assist YASSP Leadership with identifying new projects, securing grant or foundation funding, and visioning for the growth and development of the research program.

Essential Duties:

Designs, plans, implements and evaluates complex multifaceted research projects/systems.

Collaborates with PI to define research endeavors and the development of research hypothesis and approach.

Solves complex methodology, protocol, procedural and research problems.

Develops long range plans for supplies and equipment.

Investigates, analyzes and evaluates complex data and data collection systems.

Collaborates with PI to coordinate major lab renovations.

Prepares scientific reports and papers for research proposals and published reports.

May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:Master’s Degree in a scientific discipline and three years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated experience.

Required Skills:

Proven experience working and collaborating with public or private land managers or policy makers.

Strong project management skills, including the ability to plan, execute and oversee multiple projects simultaneously.

Proven excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Proficiency in relevant research techniques, methods, analytical tools and models.

Familiarity with carbon crediting protocols, emerging carbon markets and greenhouse gas accounting preferred.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:Ph.D., or Master’s degree with commensurate experience in a relevant field such as ecology, conservation, restoration and land management.
