Assistant Director of Parks, Recreation & Open Spaces

Performs a variety of complex professional and administrative work in the operation of a year-round, municipal parks and recreation department. Assists the director in planning, implementing, directing, and managing all functions and resources of the department. Position is primarily focused on managing, coaching, and developing other people. Position requires extensive depth of expertise and knowledge in specialized functions or business areas that can be used to develop policies and procedures as well as determining efficient and innovative ways to accomplish the organization’s business strategies.

Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management or related field.Eight (8) or more years’ progressively responsible experience in parks and recreation, including at least three years of supervisory or management experience; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience.Must have a valid Florida driver's license with a satisfactory driving record throughout employment.Must have National Incident Management System (NIMS) certification (level to be determined by job classification requirements) or obtain within one year of employment.Must have First Aid, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certifications.Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO), Certified Playground Inspector (CPSI), and Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) or Executive (CPRE) designations are preferred.

In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications listed above, an individual must be able to perform each of the established essential functions in order to perform this job successfully.
