This is a current San Miguel employee who meets all minimum requirements listed in the announcement who is seeking a promotional opportunity with San Miguel Fire & Rescue.Lateral Candidate:

This is a candidate who is currently a full-time paid Captain or above with all the qualifications required of the position listed in the announcement and who is coming from another organization seeking employment with San Miguel Fire & Rescue.Open Competitive:

This is a candidate from another agency who meets all minimum requirements listed in the announcement and is seeking employment with San Miguel Fire & Rescue.

Under the general direction of a Battalion Chief, supervises and oversees the operation of a fire company and/or fire station in accordance with District rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Responsibilities include:Respond to emergencies as directed.Supervise personnel and make decisions regarding actions to be taken and the need for additional assistance, ensuring and participating in the protection of life and property.Schedule and direct training and drill activities for station personnel in all phases of firefighting, rescue, and EMS consistent with District policies and procedures.Oversee or personally conduct fire prevention inspections and pre-fire planning activities.Supervise and may participate in fire investigation activities at fire scenes and the inspection of buildings and installations for fire hazards and fire safety systems as required by State law and District ordinances.Coordinate fire scene investigations, obtain and preserve evidence at a fire scene.Assign personnel to equipment and oversee maintenance of fire station, equipment, and apparatus.Supervise the ordering, repair, testing, and maintenance of station supplies and equipment.Administer and oversee implementation of District rules, regulations, policies and procedures, memoranda of understanding (MOU’s) and other regulations.Assist with preparation and administration of District budget.Operate computers, maintain accurate logs of daily activities, and maintain accurate reports of all incidents, training, inspections, and hydrant maintenance.Participate in public relations activities involving demonstrations and interpretation of fire prevention and safety procedures.Supervise and evaluate safety and/or non-safety employees.Counsel and discipline employees in a professional manner according to district policies.Be prepared to perform the duties of a higher classification when assigned.Perform non-shift administrative or prevention duties as assigned.Administer basic and advanced life support emergency medical assistance.Operate defibrillation equipment.Perform other duties as assigned.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEA combination of education, training, and experience that clearly demonstrates possession of the knowledge and abilities needed to perform the typical duties listed above.Minimum Requirements:Promotional ApplicantsMinimum of five years paid full-time experience in the fire service with progressively increasing levels of responsibility.Minimum of two years as a rated Engineer and currently in a non-probationary status.Satisfactory or above on last performance evaluation and not currently on a performance plan.Holds a current San Diego County EMT or Paramedic License.Lateral ApplicantsMinimum of five years paid full-time experience in the fire service with progressively increasing levels of responsibility.Currently in the rank of Captain or above.Holds a current San Diego County and California Paramedic License.Open Competitive ApplicantsMinimum of five years paid full-time experience in the fire service with progressively increasing levels of responsibility.Minimum of two years as a rated Engineer and currently in a non-probationary status.Holds a current San Diego County and California Paramedic License.By time of appointment for all applicants:Proof of completion of the California State Fire Marshal (CSFM) Company Officer courses is required by time of appointment, with CSFM Company Officer certification validated by completion of probation period.The two areas listed below are the accepted means of obtaining the certification:Company Officer 2A - Human Resources ManagementCompany Officer 2B - General Administrative FunctionsCompany Officer 2C - Fire Inspections and InvestigationsCompany Officer 2D - All Risk Command OperationsCompany Officer 2E - Wildland Incident OperationsInstructor 1- Instructor MethodologyCSFM FF2ORCompletion of the eight (8) California State Fire Marshal Fire Officer courses (listed below) prior to 01/01/2017 will not need to complete the five new California State Fire Marshal Company Officer courses:Fire Command 1A or Command 1AFire Command 1BFire Instructor 1A or Training Instructor 1AFire Instructor 1B or Training Instructor 1BFire Investigation 1AFire Management 1Fire Prevention 1A or Fire Prevention 1Fire Prevention 1B or Fire Prevention 1ICS 300The examination process may include didactic, manipulative, and interview portions, including appointing authority interviews.
