Purchasing Manager - American Plastic Molding Corporation

American Plastic Molding Corporation has an opportunity for an experienced Purchasing Manager to lead the procurement functions of a well-respected plastics manufacturing company. APMC is an employee stock ownership plan (ESOP) located in Southern Indiana. We have an excellent industry reputation. Unlike many plastics companies, we are not focused on just automotive. Our customers span multiple industries. We are a well-diversified and a financially solid company.We are seeking to add a Purchasing Manager that is responsible for the procurement of all purchased components, raw materials, and consumables both domestic and international. They will create and implement purchasing and vendor management strategies and have direct supervision over buyers, clerks, and the entire procurement staff. They will have a strong background in strategic sourcing, supplier relationship management, and negotiation, with a proven history of driving cost savings and efficiency improvements.Essential FunctionsStrategic Sourcing:

Develop and implement strategic sourcing plans to ensure the timely and cost-effective procurement of goods and services.Identify opportunities for cost reduction, process improvement, and supplier consolidation.Conduct market research and analysis to stay informed about industry trends and supplier capabilities.Lead cross-functional teams to evaluate supplier performance and identify opportunities for process improvement and cost savings.

Strategic Procurement for Outsourcing:

Supplier Selection process of identifying and evaluating potential suppliers.Contract negotiation with suppliers.Evaluate and select suppliers based on criteria such as quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.Negotiate contracts and terms with suppliers to achieve favorable pricing, payment terms, and service level agreements.Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers, negotiating contracts and agreements to ensure the best value and service for the organizations.Monitor supplier performance and compliance with contractual agreements.Collaborate with suppliers to develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives, such as supplier development programs and cost reduction projects.

Inventory Management:

Monitor inventory levels and demand forecasts to optimize inventory turns and minimize stockouts.Implement inventory control measures to reduce excess inventory and ensure accurate inventory records.Understand and can create Purchase Orders, Receipt entry, distribute receiving documents, adding all inventory item numbers and Bill of Materials for any material blends.

Cross-functional Collaboration:

Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including production, sales, and finance teams, to understand their procurement needs and priorities.Coordinate with other departments to ensure alignment on procurement strategies and priorities.

Compliance and Risk Management:

Review and analyze contract terms to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, as well as alignment with business objectives.Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, policies, and procedures related to procurement and supplier management.Identify and mitigate risks related to supply chain disruptions, quality issues, and geopolitical factors.Work closely with legal and finance teams to finalize contract agreements and resolve any contract-related issues.

Team Leadership and Development:

Provide leadership and direction to the purchasing team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.Coach and mentor team members, providing guidance and support to help them achieve their professional goals and contribute to the success of the organization.Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to team members, recognizing achievements and addressing areas for improvement.Coordinate personnel’s vacation and absences.

Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Supply Chain Management, or related field.A minimum of 5 years of experience in procurement, sourcing, or supply chain management and a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role.Strong negotiation skills and ability to build effective relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.Proficiency in procurement software and tools, such as ERP systems, e-procurement platforms, and supplier portals.Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a strategic mindset and detailed oriented.Persuasive communication and people skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across functions.Additional Responsibilities:Engineering technical support.Manufacturing technical support.Quality support.Materials Handling supports.Proficient in the use of a fire extinguisher.Identify and respond to emergency situations and accidents and prevent or mitigate associated adverse environmental impacts.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:While performing the job, the employee is required to talk or listen.The employee will frequently stand, sit, and walk, and will manipulate objects with hands and fingers.Additionally, the employee may be required to reach with hands and arms.The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to twenty-five pounds.Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.WORK ENVIRONMENT:From time to time, the employee might encounter moving mechanical components, airborne particles, and hot liquids.
