The Duke University Campus Recreation and Physical Education Department seeks a resourceful Assistant Director of Intramural Sports to join our talented team. In this crucial role, you can directly impact the university's comprehensive Intramural Sports program.

You will coordinate scheduling for all Intramural leagues and tournaments through IM Leagues software and lead Intramural Official, Scorekeeper, and supervisor training. As a leader, you will be responsible for recruiting, hiring, and providing direct supervision to the Intramural Sports Intern and approximately 50 – 60 part-time staff.

Minimum Requirements:Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

Work requires two or more years of experience working in a collegiate recreation setting or a similar field. Two years of Graduate Assistant experience will be considered one year of professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications:Master's degree from an accredited institution in higher education, sports management, or a related field.

Three or more years of professional work experience in collegiate recreation or a similar field. Two or more years of supervisory and management experience.

Certification as a high school official or higher.

Current and valid American Red Cross AED/CPR/First Aid certification.

This position is onsite. The work is performed onsite or at a designated assignment location, with occasional work done in the evenings and on the weekends.

Position Description:

This is a full-time position under the direct supervision of the Director of Sport Programs. The Assistant Director is responsible for leading the development, directing, and evaluation of a comprehensive Intramural Sports program, serving an average of 3700 participants annually. This position is expected to work occasional afternoon, evening, and weekend hours during regular programming. Work hours will fluctuate with Intramural Sports league and tournament schedules and will be communicated in advance by the Director of Sport Programs.

Recruit, hire, and provide direct supervision to the Intramural Sports Intern and approximately 50-60 part-time staff.

Mentor part-time staff and oversee the evaluation and disciplinary process.

Lead Intramural Officials, Scorekeepers, and Supervisors training and ongoing development strategies.

Coordinate scheduling for all Intramural leagues and tournaments through IM Leagues software.

Manage participant eligibility membership through Innosoft Fusion.

Serve as primary contact for participant communication, scheduling inquiries, and discipline.

Manage programming facility schedules and reservations.

Review and update administrative policies and procedures related to Intramural Sports programs and staffing needs.

Responsible for tracking inventory of sports equipment and uniforms.

Conduct annual assessments for programming effectiveness and satisfaction.

Assist with budget management including staff payroll tracking and approvals.

Assist the Director of Sport Programs with marketing and outreach efforts.

Serve as a liaison between Recreation and Physical Education, Duke Athletics, Student Affairs, and other off-campus groups for initiatives and activities.

Coordinate extramural programs by developing employees, officials, and team participation through active onsite involvement and evaluation of hosting opportunities.

Serve as the Special Olympics club advisor and lead all Unified programming.

Coordinate and adhere to departmental risk management efforts for all programs and facilities in areas of responsibility.

Minimum QualificationsEducationWork requires analytical, communications and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.

ExperienceWork requires one year of experience in program administration or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience involving academic, instructional or counseling activities to acquire skills necessary to plan, coordinate and implement a variety of program activities and events.
