Position Focus:The Morse College Service Assistant provides high-level customer service to all residents and guests of the Morse Head of College Residence and Guest Suite. Responsibilities include:

Independent event planning and management

Inventory tracking and management

High-level food preparation and presentation

Financial expense reporting

General housekeeping

The Service Assistant will plan, organize, cater, and oversee events for up to 200 guests with limited supervision, requiring strong decision-making skills across all facets of the events and catering experience.

Essential Duties

Serves meals and refreshments and tends bar for daily lunch and special functions.

Opens and closes restaurant and register, receives and disburses cash.

Cleans, maintains, and removes trash from assigned areas.

Trains and oversees activities of waitstaff.

Coordinates waitstaff in setting up and breaking down special functions.

Maintains inventory of beverages and notifies manager of items to be ordered.

Assists in aspects of meal preparation and washes dishes as necessary.

Participates in food/wine selections through attendance at food shows, wine tastings, etc.

Performs additional functions incidental to service activities.

Required Education and ExperienceFour years of related work experience, two of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and a high school level education; or two years of related work experience and an Associates Degree; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Required Skills/Abilities

Demonstrated ability in planning and organizing meals and events.

Intermediate computer skills with ability to learn new systems.

Ability to be self-directed, proactive, and flexible.

Demonstrated solid and reliable attendance record.

Appreciation for principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
