Registered Nurse - Psych12 Hour Variable

Job Title: Registered Nurse - Psych Job Specialty: Behavioral Health - Inpatient Job Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12 Hour Variable Guaranteed Hours: 36 per week Experience: Minimum of 1 year required License: Registered Nurse (RN) - South Dakota Board of Nursing Certifications: BLS and CPI (preferred to have prior to start but can obtain during assignment) Must-Have: Previous experience working with psychiatric patients, ability to perform physical restraints if necessary, effective communication and de-escalation skills Job Description: - Work with psychiatric patients including children/adolescents ages 5-17 and adults. - Diagnoses include, but are not limited to, depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, psychosis, and adjustment disorder.- Prepare to manage situations involving violent/aggressive patients.- Maintain a patient ratio of RN: 1:8 with a tech.- Administer medications including injectables and orally (PO).- Evaluate care plans, note progress, and complete documentation accurately.- Conduct admission screens, assessments, minor wound care, and complete discharge planning when needed.- Perform tasks such as EKGs and glucometer readings; training provided if necessary.- Take telephone or verbal orders and acknowledge them appropriately.- Conduct vital signs measurement and Columbia suicide risk screenings.- Participate in end-of-shift reports, and log patient belongings.- Be part of the Behavioral Emergency Response Team available 24/7.- Utilize equipment and systems like EPIC for charting; prior experience with EPIC is preferred.- May be required to float between different floors within the behavioral health facility.- Engage in employer-provided orientation including facility and departmental training. Scheduling: - Blocked scheduling is not available; shifts can vary between days and nights.- Expect a weekend rotation every other weekend.- Mandatory participation during one major holiday between Thanksgiving and Christmas, with flexibility on other holidays.- Approval for time off handled through supervisors, with no regular time off during specified high-demand periods. Additional Notes: - Follow dress code with navy scrubs as standard.- The staffing model includes support with 24/7 security, panic alarms for caregivers, and a charge nurse on shift.- Access to MD support on-call 24/7.- Opportunity to contribute within a team nursing approach where RNs administer their own meds.
