Position Focus:This position is to coordinate academic activities of the Department of Pharmacology together with the Chair. The position involves providing high-level assistance with implementing the Department’s academic research and educational strategy and working alongside faculty in: refining scientific components of grant applications; sharing and reviewing scientific ideas; defining Departmental funding priorities; promoting faculty; and recruiting new faculty. Responsible for the coordination of faculty communication in scientific matters within the Department, communication of Departmental achievements outside the Department, and maintaining records on research and academic career progress.

Essential Duties:

Designs, plans, implements and evaluates complex multifaceted research projects/systems, including method development, adaptation and validation.

Collaborates with PI to define research endeavors and the development of research hypothesis and approach.

Solves complex methodology, protocol, procedural and research problems through design of techniques, procedures and policies that will achieve research goals.

Develops long range plans for supplies and equipment to ensure smooth operation of laboratory.

Investigates, analyzes and evaluates complex data, data collection systems and methods to reach scientific conclusions and ensures the integrity of research data.

Collaborates with PI to coordinate major lab renovations working with Facilities, Health and Safety, and Purchasing to ensure deadlines, safety standards and purchases are according to plans and within budgets.

Prepares scientific reports and papers for research proposals and published reports.

May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:Master’s Degree in a scientific discipline and three years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Ability to organize and coordinate mock study sections to review faculty grants – collecting proposals from faculty, assigning scientifically appropriate reviewers together with Chair, arranging review meetings, and coordinating report-back.

Ability to keep abreast of available scientific awards for which Department faculty are eligible, and coordinate a committee to select nominees and organize their nominations – including gathering of scientific materials, collecting recommendation letters, etc.

Strong abilities in social media and scientific writing to disseminate information on Departmental activities and achievements on social media and web platforms, to Yale news, etc.

Ability to work with the Vice Chair of the Department to coordinate review of scientific proposals for Departmental bridge funding, and engage in selection of faculty recruits to interview, and to coordinate faculty searches in collaboration with the Chair and Faculty Search Committees.

Ability to appreciate logic and suitability of laboratory assignments to different laboratories in the Department, and to work with the Chair and Vice Chair to adjust assignments as scientific programs wax and wane, and when new faculty are recruited.
