Position InformationThe University of Maryland Eastern Shore invites applications for the position of Assistant Program Director/Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in the Master of Physician Assistant Studies Program. This is a full-time, tenure-track, 12-month position. The position will report to the Program Director and will collaborate with other PA faculty and staff to support the program’s mission and ensure compliance with ARC-PA accreditation standards. The program is dedicated to providing time and resources for the professional development of all faculty and staff. Salary and rank for the position are commensurate with experience and qualifications.

This will be a 1 FTE (5 days per week) faculty position. The Assistant Program Director will report to campus at least three days per week, with one day of clinical release time for research, service, or education, and one virtual work-from-home day. Additionally, the Assistant Program Director will need to attend all mandatory in-person meetings/events, interview days, lectures as needed, OSCE/practicum days, and other activities necessary to meet the program’s needs. The Assistant Program Director will assist with site visits in DC, MD, VA, and potentially other states as needed. The position will also require travel for conferences locally and across the country.

ResponsibilitiesAssistant Program Director/Principal Faculty Position

Assist the Program Director in the overall planning, development and daily operations of the program.

Serve as a Principal Faculty member in the program to ensure that the program is in compliance with the Accreditation Review Committee on Education for Physician Assistant Education (ARC-PA).

Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities:

Collaborate with the Program Director and other faculty members to oversee the design and implementation of the program in accordance with accreditation standards.

Participate in the development and assessment of the didactic and clinical curriculum.

Assist in reviewing and updating the Program, Clinical Education, and Preceptor Handbooks on an annual basis.

Collaborate with the Program Director in faculty recruitment, onboarding, and professional development initiatives.

Chair the Progress and Promotions Committee.

Manage and address all student academic and professional issues, including managing student transitions associated with disciplinary determinations (e.g., withdrawal, deceleration, dismissal, appeals).

Participate in Clinical Year, CRC, Departmental, and PPC meetings.

Assist in the recruitment and selection of applicants for admission, review applications, conduct interviews, and select students for admission.

Complete all ARC-PA assignments and attend all ARC-PA training sessions and site visits.

Participate in the annual retreat.

Perform other related duties as assigned, including but not limited to, student advising, participating in call-back days as needed, completing site visits, proctoring exams, remediation, OSCE/practicum implementation/grading, and course directing/instructing/grading didactic or clinical courses.

Participate in scholarly activities, including research and active participation in state or national organizations and conferences.

Participate in program, School, and University committees, and attend related functions.

Maintain clinical competency and knowledge of current best practices within the profession.

Complete other duties related to program leadership as required.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree from an ARC-PA accredited program.

Experience with and knowledge of ARC-PA accreditation standards.

Current NCCPA certification.

Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant in the state of Maryland.

Two years of teaching experience in PA education.

Three years of clinical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

One-year experience in a supervisory or managerial role.

Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
