Program includes a crisis hotline, mobile mental health response, and follow-up services.JOB SUMMARYWorks within the vision, mission, and philosophy of the agency. Within a team process, develops a strength-based relationship with clients in the context of a mental health or behavioral crisis. Intervenes with individuals presenting with crisis behaviors including but not limited to agitation, aggression, active psychosis, suicidal ideation, and/or self-injury. The position requires shift-based work responding to community or Crisis Stabilization Unit based crises on immediate emergency requests.RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIESMay support the mental health crisis hotline by gathering information, supporting callers, and identifying needs related to current crisis situations.Participates in information gathering and decision-making related to involuntary psychiatric holds as per Lanterman Petris Short laws and regulations.Provides direct billable mental health services, documents in alignment with MediCal regulations, and achieves set productivity expectations.Engages and supports family members and other natural supports during an acute psychiatric crisis.Facilitates transport of individuals on 5150 holds and remains with the client until transport has arrived.Assists individuals with identifying triggers and unmet needs contributing to ongoing acute mental health crises.Provides linkage, referrals, and resources in the community based on identified needs.OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESDriving to adults or youth in crisis in the location identified.Position-specific duties and responsibilities may vary depending upon the program.Performs other responsibilities as assigned to support department/business needs.Participates in crisis intervention and de-escalation training for law enforcement and other community stakeholders.QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. All employees are responsible for keeping job requirements up to date.MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCEHigh school diploma or GED required.Bachelor's in Psychology preferred.One (1) year experience working in the mental health field.OTHER SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTIf the program requires, employee must pass an initial physical abilities test (PATS) and be certified in crisis intervention techniques within the first 30 days and annually.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS1 year working with children or adults.BA/BS in a related field preferred.HIGHLY DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONSInterpersonal skills and the ability to write and speak in a grammatically correct manner required.Speak, read, and/or write another language is highly desirable.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSMust remain physically fit enough to keep children and self-safe.
