In turn, we hope this helps you evaluate if this is the right job for you.Job SummaryCroda Consumer Care is looking for a highly self-motivated, senior level Skin / Sun Care Lead Applications Scientist to join the Skin/Sun Care Applications team. The qualified candidate will work with customers on formulation development projects and support commercially driven workshops, visits, and tradeshows. The qualified candidate will also work closely with the Personal Care product development team to evaluate new raw materials and establish a mechanistic understanding of these ingredients in skin care applications. The primary responsibilities and qualifications for this role are given below. Perform all duties assigned within the Company’s Safety, Health Environmental regulations. All other duties assigned by management.Duties and Responsibilities:Key Duties:Develop market-relevant Skin/Sun care prototype formulations using Croda technologies and other suppliers’ technologies, as necessary. Knowledge of formulating color cosmetics is a plus.Evaluate performance of new and existing raw materials in various skin/sun care formulation formats.Work with customers to develop new formulations and/or troubleshoot existing formulations containing Croda ingredients.Work with testing and product evaluation labs to establish correlations between

in-vitro

and

in-vivo

studies on ingredients and formulations.Prepare technical reports, summaries, protocols, quantitative analyses and present at cross-functional meetings and to customers as needed.Maintain a high level of professional expertise through familiarity and periodic review of various scientific literatures.May lead research work that contributes to scientific publications and industry conference presentations, as well as development of patent applications.Liaise with other regional and global R&D personnel as well as external constituents (i.e. academia, open innovation partners) to progress the research program as needed.Assist and train junior chemists as needed.Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, including commercial, marketing, regulatory, and IP.Perform other duties necessary to the smooth and safe functioning of the laboratory: follow safe work practices, order, and maintain laboratory supplies, equipment calibration, laboratory facility upkeep and preventative maintenance.QualificationsEducation and Training:BS in Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, Physical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related sciences with 5+ years of formulating skin/sun care personal care products OR Masters degree with 3+ years’ experience.Knowledge and Experience:Strong knowledge of emulsion, surfactant, rheology technologies.Proficient understanding of raw materials and chemical compatibility used for formulation development and applying it to predict overall product’s physical and chemical properties.Experience in formulation reverse engineering and finished product benchmarking.Experience presenting innovations to customers, as well as commercial teams.Fundamental understanding of design of experiment (DOE) to optimize ingredient levels and formulation performance.Experience in troubleshooting stability issues and tackling complex raw material technical problems. Proven ability to formulate for stability and efficacy.Knowledge of skin/sun care product validation and claims substantiation.Customer-facing experience, working on marketing briefs and new product development.Strong knowledge of different suppliers’ skin/sun care raw materials, INCI and trade names.Knowledge of various US and EU cosmetic regulations.Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to interpret and clearly understand SOPs and laboratory procedures.Detail-oriented, analytical with excellent problem-solving skills.Demonstrate ability to work independently and in cross-functional team environment.Physical Demands:Able to walk, stand or sit for a minimum of 8 hours per day.Croda recognizes employees as our strength and the diversity they bring to our workforce is directly linked to our ongoing success.
