Sr. Information Specialist

to join our vibrant team at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) supporting the

National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS)

located in

Rockville, MD.

This role involves managing and disseminating information, conducting in-depth research, and providing expert-level support to internal teams and external users. The position also involves leading projects and mentoring junior team members.Responsibilities:Conduct advanced research on rare diseases, utilizing scientific literature, databases, and publicly available resources to address complex information requests.Serve as a subject matter expert, providing guidance and technical expertise on rare disease information to both internal and external stakeholders.Lead the development and maintenance of databases and resources, ensuring information accuracy and relevance.Oversee the documentation and reporting of research findings and responses to inquiries using a case management system (Salesforce or similar).Mentor and train junior Information Specialists, offering support in handling more challenging requests and improving their research skills.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop resources, FAQs, and guides to streamline information dissemination.Analyze trends in information requests to recommend process improvements and resource development.Ensure compliance with privacy, data security, and NIH guidelines in all communications and information handling.Provide high-level support to researchers, healthcare professionals, and the public by answering inquiries via multiple communication channels.Stay up to date on the latest developments in rare disease research and other related fields to ensure the most current information is available.Contribute to strategic planning, offering recommendations to improve the efficiency of the information management process.Handle complex or escalated inquiries that require specialized knowledge and in-depth research.Participate in and present at internal and external meetings, webinars, or training sessions to share knowledge and best practices.Qualifications:Minimum 4-5 years of experience in an information management, research, or support role, with at least 2 years in a senior or leadership capacity.Proven ability to conduct advanced research and synthesize complex information from a variety of sources.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey detailed, technical information clearly.Experience with Salesforce or similar case management tools.Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.Experience in training, mentoring, or leading a team of information professionals.Familiarity with medical or scientific terminology, especially in the context of rare diseases.Must adhere to NIH guidelines and data privacy standards.Demonstrated problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities in handling complex information requests.Preferred Skills:Experience in a healthcare, scientific, or educational environment.Knowledge of rare disease advocacy or research communities.Proficiency in database management, data analysis, and resource development.Bilingual or multilingual skills are a plus.Disclaimer:
