Job Summary:The Mead Witter School of Music at the University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applications for a full-time teaching faculty member in Bassoon. With 33 faculty, 26 full- and part-time instructional staff, and 24 administrative and technical staff, the Mead Witter School of Music is a comprehensive, leading school of music serving approximately 360 undergraduate majors and graduate students in BA, BS, BM, MM, MA, DMA, and PhD degree programs.

Preference will be given to candidates with successful teaching and recruitment experience in bassoon at the college level, and a record of professional performing experience at the national/international level. We seek a colleague who will join a nationally renowned staff and faculty and contribute to our program through teaching courses that develop and support a wide range of musical endeavors.

Principal Duties:

Teach individual lessons and a once weekly studio class for students in the bassoon studio.

Teach one music course each semester as assigned by the Director.

Teach 1-2 chamber music ensembles.

Teach the bassoon section of MUS 497: Woodwind Fundamentals.

Hold regular office hours.

Rehearse, perform and travel with the Wingra Wind Quintet.

Attend department and area meetings as needed.

Recruitment of students for the bassoon studio.

Participate in undergraduate juries for the woodwind area at the end of each semester.

Attend graduate and undergraduate audition days.

Education:Required: Master's Degree

Qualifications:

Previous experience with advanced bassoon instruction at the college level.

Proven track record or the promise for strong recruitment.

Evidence of an emerging or established national/international performance career.

Work Type:Full Time: 100%. It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Appointment Type, Duration:Terminal, 9 month appointment. This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding.

Salary:Minimum:

$50,000 ACADEMIC (9 months). Depending on Qualifications. The typical starting salary for this position is $50,000 - $65,000 depending on qualifications and experience. Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as sick leave, competitive insurances and saving accounts; and retirement benefits.
