Assistant Professor - Professional Practice - Graphic Design

The School of Art in the College of Art and Design at Louisiana State University invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track position as an Assistant Professor of Practice in Graphic Design/Experience Design to commence in Fall 2024.The School of Art seeks candidates with professional expertise in interaction design and emerging creative technologies, and who demonstrate proficiency with the theory, state-of-the-art tools and processes in any of the following practices: experience design, interactivity, generative media, creative computation, motion design, coded typography, and immersive media. We are seeking a candidate who can instruct creative technologies in a manner that aligns with the needs and interests of graphic design students. This role requires the capacity to integrate innovative technological tools and methods into the curriculum, enhancing the learning experience and preparing students for the dynamic landscape of contemporary graphic design. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a deep understanding of traditional design principles and emerging digital platforms, fostering an environment that nurtures creativity, critical thinking, and technical expertise.The successful applicant will teach courses for entry-level to senior-level undergraduates and may have the opportunity to teach and mentor graduate students in the MFA program. The Assistant Professor of Practice will have college and departmental service responsibilities during their term, which include participation in the Graphic Design Student Office (GDSO), our renowned faculty-led graphic design studio.Job Responsibilities:TEACHING (65%):

Teach relevant courses for the School of Art in undergraduate and/or graduate programs. Teach and coordinate all aspects of the courses assigned including: course/project development, lectures, technique demonstrations, one-on-one assistance with students during class, grading, and class prep.SERVICE (35%):

Provide services to the School, College, and University, including participation in the Graphic Design Student Office (GDSO). Participate in student advising and mentoring.Required Qualifications:Master’s or MFA in Graphic Design, Art and Technology, Digital Arts, Interaction/Experience Design or related field, or equivalent work experience. Individuals without a terminal degree but with requisite professional practice in their respective fields will be considered;Demonstrated competency in working with technologies, tools, and software related to experience design, interactivity, generative media, creative computation, motion design, coded typography, and immersive media.Preferred Qualifications:Teaching experience at the university level, which may include experience as an instructor of record.An established record of creative practice in graphic design, experience design, interactive design or related field.Ability to demonstrate, through their teaching philosophy or record, an ability to mentor undergraduate and/or graduate students to foster collaboration, experimentation, and innovation across departments.Evidence of collaboration skills, multidisciplinary activities and maintaining professional relationships outside of the university.Special Instructions:
