Scope of Job:

With the start of Division I college football at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in Fall 2025, the School of Music is seeking a Director of Athletic Bands to lead the Vaquero Marching Band, as a Professor of Practice (non-tenure track). This 3-year appointment is a 12-month position, renewable upon successful periodic performance evaluations and budget availability. The candidate will ideally begin no later than June 1, 2025.The Director of Athletic Bands will conduct a concert band (spring semester only) that rehearses on the Brownsville campus, in addition to directing the Vaquero Marching Band. The Director will also supervise Marching Band graduate teaching assistants and may teach additional courses based on expertise.The Director will collaborate with UTRGV Athletics and Spirit Programs, participating in public events throughout the year. The Director may also teach summer classes if needed.Minimum Qualifications

Master of Music (MM) from an accredited institution.Director or Assistant Director of Athletic Band Program in NCAA Division I or II institution with a football program.Demonstrated record of recruitment and program building.Demonstrated record of professional administrative and management skills.Demonstrated potential for high-level scholarly/artistic achievement.Ability to collaborate with music faculty, and athletics and student life staff.Preferred Qualifications

Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) or PhD in Music from an accredited institution.Previous public school teaching at the high school level including marching band.Salary:

$115,000-$125,000 as commensurate with qualifications and experience.Desired Start Date:

Additional InformationThis position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment.
