Institute Associate Scientist III -ADME/PK

MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas, United States, 77246

MD Anderson is known for providing cancer patients with exceptional care, which includes early access to innovative new treatments through clinical trials. The Institute for Applied Cancer Science (IACS) is a hybrid model that uniquely combines the drug discovery capabilities of the biopharmaceutical industry and the extensive knowledge of biology found in academia with the expertise of MD Anderson's top clinicians. IACS has the singular goal of rapidly developing novel, effective and safe therapeutics that improve patient health. IACS executes programs with the highest probability of clinical success in a rigorous, goal-oriented, data-driven manner. The Institute for Applied Cancer Science is seeking a highly motivated and team-oriented individual to join our ADME/PK group to support our fast-paced drug discovery programs. The position requires a highly self-motivated individual, with organizational skills, and the ability to effectively present results and conclusions to co-workers and managers. A collaborative attitude is essential for this position. The ideal candidate should be motivated for a career in the field of ADME/PK and have good knowledge of organic chemistry and analytical chemistry. Experience in LC-MS/MS is preferred but not required. The candidate will be trained to conduct in vitro ADME assays using biomatrices such as liver microsomes and/or hepatocytes and conduct bioanalysis using triple quadrupole LC-MS/MS instruments. The candidate will also be trained in metabolite identification using a high-resolution mass spectrometer. They will have good communication skills and will regularly liaise with other members of the cross-functional project team. This individual will be a key contributor in the identification and optimization of the next generation of cancer therapeutics.KEY FUNCTIONS

Under minimal supervision, perform in vitro ADME assays on drug discovery programs, such as liver microsomal and hepatocytic stability assays, plasma protein binding assays, and MDCK cell permeability assays.Under minimal supervision, conduct metabolite identification of small molecule drug candidates using LC-HRMS.Troubleshoot issues with assay performance and monitor assay quality.Conduct quantitation analysis of small molecules in various biological matrices using LC-MS/MS.Maintain and troubleshoot triple quadrupole and high-resolution mass spectrometers.Participate in integrated drug discovery research project teams and interact across cross-functional groups including members of medicinal chemistry, in vitro & in vivo pharmacology, and biology teams.Work closely with research teams and contribute to the optimization of ADME properties of new target molecules.Employ safe lab practice.Maintain research records and laboratory notes.Working ConditionsOffice environmentThis position requires:Working in Office Environment__X_ Yes_X_ NoWorking in Patient Care Unit (e.g. Nursing unit; outpatient clinic)_X_ No____ YesExposure to human/animal blood, body fluids, or tissues__X__No__ _ YesExposure to harmful chemicals__X__No___ YesExposure to radiation_X_ No____ YesEDUCATION:
