GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

Please note that this section should be written in a paragraph format and provide a broad description of the role and its purpose as well as the reporting structure.Reporting to the Principle Investigator, the Research Technician will be working in the Optics Group of the A.A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging. The incumbent will perform the day-to-day duties of building and maintaining fiber optics probes, designing and 3-D printing components needed for probes and devices, building, repairing, and modifying electronic components, assembling NIRS wearable devices, and designing and building probes for service contracts. They will also perform general laboratory inventory and organization, maintaining orders and supplies.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Adhesive terminate, machine polish and inspect single mode, multi-mode optical fiber and optical fiber bundles with FC, SMA and custom optical fiber connectors.Design and 3D print biocompatible optomechanical housings for the patient side of the probe.Assemble fibers, housings and micro-optics into a complete probe.Validate probe performance with tests on phantoms.Design and print other components needed in the lab.Help assembly and repair NIRS devices.Assemble wearable NIRS devices.Assemble electronic circuits.Design and build optical probes for service contract users.Maintain laboratory notebooks.Understand and apply basic scientific techniques.Assist with organizing materials for publication or presentation.Maintain and order supplies.SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

Ability to work independently and as a team member.Good communication skills.Computer literacy.Working knowledge of fabrication and 3D design.Basic electronic assembly skills.Ability to operate machine shop tools.Ability to perform multiple tasks independently.Qualifications

EDUCATION:Bachelor's degree required.EXPERIENCE:Minimum of 1 year of directly related work experience will be considered for a Research Technician II position.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:N/AWORKING CONDITIONS:Most work will take place in a research laboratory.EEO Statement:
