GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:A full-time Research Technician (RT) position is available at the Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging of the Massachusetts General Hospital. Our laboratory performs translational and pharmacological neuroimaging studies to investigate the effects of various classes of drugs on brain function and chemistry. The RT will assist with multiple research projects involving neuroimaging with positron emission tomography (PET), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and PET/CT in animal models. Duties will include all aspects of support for conducting research studies.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Scheduling and coordinating animal studiesAcquisition of multiple modes of animal neuroimaging dataAcquisition and analysis of biological samplesPerform surgical procedures on animalsMaintenance of well-organized records and reportsManagement and organization of data for the study, procedural documentation, and standard operating protocolsDatabase entry, maintenance, and queriesQuality assurance/quality control data checksPreparation and maintenance of regulatory documentationPreparing laboratory solutions, ordering supplies, and checking on lab equipmentSKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:Minimum Requirements:BS or BA, recent graduate with relevant courseworkInterest in neuroscience, biomedical engineering, psychology, public health or related research fieldExcellent organizational skills and ability to maintain accurate recordsCommitted and hard workingGood attention to detail: take action to prevent mistakesAbility to work independently as well as with othersA minimum of two years of commitment is requiredEDUCATION:Bachelor's degree required.Field of Study/Additional Specialized Training: Biology, Neuroscience, Biomedical engineering, or a related field.EXPERIENCE:New graduates with some lab experience (via coursework, internships, etc.) or those without any prior research experience will be considered for the Research Technician I position outlined above.Those with a minimum of 1 year of directly related work experience will be considered for a Research Technician II position.Preferred:

Some experience with histology or basic laboratory skills.WORKING CONDITIONS:This work will involve working with animals, handling biological samples and may involve working with -80 degree Celsius freezers.
