Position Description

The Department of History and the Environmental Studies Program at Tulane University invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Environmental History. The position is open in terms of geographic scope, time period, and topic. Teaching experience is preferred. The appointment will begin July 1, 2025.

The successful candidate will have a tenure home in the History Department and a joint appointment in the Environmental Studies (EVST) Program, with teaching and service divided equally between the two units. EVST is an interdisciplinary program based in Tulane’s School of Liberal Arts with strengths in the social sciences and environmental humanities. We are in the process of building a vibrant and unique program that will bring together Environmental and Urban Studies, comprised of scholars who understand the relationships between cities and place, the environment, and climate change. The teaching load is 2/2, with teaching and mentoring at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Qualifications

Candidates must complete all requirements for the PhD by 1 June 2025.
