FOOD SAFETY MANAGER

Objective:

Provide leadership and instruction regarding Food Safety within the company as well as leadership and instruction regarding Housekeeping and Sanitation. The position drives food safety strategy to mitigate food safety risk through implementation of prerequisite programs and food safety preventive controls.

Proficiency or the ability to learn and use Microsoft office, LinkFresh, Red Zone, and other computer programs used by the company

Safety Requirements:

Follow the companys Safety program, GMP program, proper usage of PPE, and proper usage of chemicals. Ability to walk for extended periods of time. Ability to climb stairs and ladders to facilitate inspections throughout the facility. Ability to lift approximately 50 lbs. related to supplies movement through the facility.

Job Responsibilities:

Responsible for helping to manage and update the companywide HACCP plans, Food Safety Plan and food safety systems to ensure that all products are manufactured in compliance with federal, state and customer driven food safety requirements.

Oversee the functioning of the various food safety departments by teaching company policies and procedures, delegate the workload, set standards, measure performance and providing training opportunities and feedback when needed.

Responsible for helping to manage and oversee the Sanitation program which includes the Sanitation Department, Housekeeping and Food Safety Lab functions. This also includes Food Safety Pre-Op checks of the Sanitation Department.

Oversee the Integrated Pest Management Program by ensuring that our 3rd party Pest Control Company is properly implementing all contracted services and that all Manuals are up to date per governmental and customer driven requirements. Review of trending data is also expected with appropriate actions taken as needed.

Responsible for performing routine facility and sanitation audits, providing feedback, following up on identified issues, and effectively communicating resolutions.

Responsible for keeping annual supplier farm documentation up to date which includes the following: Annual McEntire Safe Product Guarantee-Produce, Annual McEntire Safe Product Guarantee-Packaging, Annual Supplier Emergency Contact Form, Annual Supplier 3rd party audits (GFSI, GAP, etc.)

Cooperate with management personnel in formulating, improving and implementing food safety company policies, operating procedures and goals.

Participate in various regulatory, 3rd party and customer audits and ensure facility is in compliance with BRC-Global standards for food safety and quality assurance.

Ensure customer requirements, Federal and State governmental body rules and regulations are met, consumers are receiving safe and fresh produce, and the company is not exposed to liability related to the quality and safety of our products.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with regulatory authorities, industry trade groups, suppliers, external customers and internal customers.

Assist in reviewing technical problems, procedures and product specifications of suppliers, as well as recommend solutions to problems/changes in procedures.

Manage the Food Safety Supervisor tasks that cover the PCT process, PCT Techs, Pre-Op Techs, indicator organism testing used to test select finished products, and food processing surfaces. Records retention, digital file saving and digital data entry, Visual Inspections and ATP swabbing of food contact surfaces.

Facilitate actions regarding results of PCT results to various departments, includes odd hours at times.

Facilitate and oversee the overall EMP program. Communicate actions required for EMP investigations ensuring proper follow-up to SOPs and completion of investigations taken to the root cause whenever possible.

Serve as a backup for the Food Safety Director as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree or direct experience relating to food safety required.

5+ years experience in food production facility or government agency specifically regulating food processors and/or growers.

Strong leadership skills that inspire team confidence and respect while motivating team members in a creative and effective manner.

Strong foundation in food microbiology and sanitation practices through training and/or years of direct experience.

Understanding of Food Safety regulations laws and best practices (FDA, USDA, GFSI, etc.).

Ability to obtain HACCP and PCQI certification required within first 3 to 6 months. Prior completion of HACCP and/or PCQI training/certification is a plus.

Experience in hygienic equipment design is a definite plus.

Proven problem solving and project management skills.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Strong computer skills using Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and a plus to have experience using Azzule as well as an ERP system like LinkFresh or SAP

Position requires proven ability to effectively interface with all levels of management, technical and administrative staff

Must be detailed oriented and enjoy a dynamic ever-changing environment.

Must have a desire for achieving excellence in customer satisfaction, process and product quality and reliability.

Willing to travel on occasion to visit suppliers/customers and attend industry trade shows/events (
